Oh, get bent. 2024 was a unique situation.

(One could also argue that since Harris was on Biden's ticket, the voters already selected her, but never mind.)
So you wanted Biden and Hillary over Bernie Sanders??? don't fuckin lie dude.... your party has rulers not representatives.... and we want no part of that...

I like this guy's age cap!

I have little use for Commie Bernie, a guy who probably never should have been allowed to run for the nomination because he isn't even a Democrat.

The problem is, a certain percentage of Democrats supported him in 2016 as a protest against Hillary, which they've mistaken for support of his goofy ideas.

Certain percentage???? I was alive then dummy... Bernie had a movement as large as MAGA but Pelosi wanted crooked Hillary.... you stupid loser look at you... letting the democrat Apparatchik pick who runs to represent you.... sad dude really sad...

This is hilarious. Call it "The Stop Me Before I Vote Again Act." If you believe that no one should hold elected office after a certain age, don't vote for those that exceed that limit. What you want to do is stop others from voting who they want based on an age limitation. And this is not an attack on voting rights because......?

dont worry they need an amendment to get this, and congress will never vote themselves out of office.

Really? Most of the people I knew who supported Commie Bernie couldn't define Socialism on a bet, and usually led with some variation on "Hillary is a (words we can't use on USMB anymore, but rhyme with either Hunt or Witch)"

And if you are still unclear on that point, Bernie did worse in 2020 in every state, including his own, compared to 2016.

Then you don't know very many people....

You'd need a referendum at the national level with all 57 states. Good luck.
Better yet, let the voters decide if someone is too old to do the job

Discrimination based on age was against the law at one time is it still?
The only factor that should be considered for any position public or private is can they do the job properly.
Based on age is objective, based on, "Can they do the job properly", is subjective.

Age discrimination and the police -

In general, law enforcement personnel are subject to mandatory retirement at age 57 or as soon as 20 years of service have been completed after age 57. The maximum age of entry, which is intended to ensure full retirement benefits upon reaching mandatory retirement age, is typically age 37. Under both CSRS and FERS, law enforcement personnel are eligible for their enhanced benefits at the age of 50 provided they have completed the minimum requirement of 20 years of service. Under FERS, law enforcement personnel with 25 years of service are eligible for retirement regardless of age.

Politicians should mandatory retire between their mid to late 60's, in all countries, imo.

A whopping 8 out of 10 support age caps for Congress. I'm surprised by this frankly. I thought it would be majority but 80% in this atmosphere is like 100% in others.

From the piece....

While both ideas are hypothetical — neither is being seriously considered by Congress — support for each cuts across many backgrounds and party lines. The poll found that 78% of Democrats support both age caps and term limits. Eighty-three percent of Republicans backed maximum age limits, and nearly 9 in 10 supported term limits.

As for term limits; I'm a firm "no" on that. For one thing, if you have a really good, effective lawmaker...why would you want to arbitrarily have to get rid of her or him? We had a good mayor in Houston who was term limited out of office. Since he left, the city's debt has exploded (not all the fault of his successors), layoffs and furloughs have happened, etc...

We have elections on the regular. That is how you limit someone's term. Now if you want to set it at 20 years...I'll be happy to entertain tha
Term limits and age limits.
A citizen may serve no longer than 6 years total in Congress.
First term member should not be sworn in after their 61st birthday.
No Jews, blacks, women, or Jews.

I disagree.

The problem is the Founders never envisioned a world where people routinely live well into their 80s.

We can see with both Biden and Trump the problem of letting people serve long after they should have retired in any other field.
Holy crap, for once I agree with you.
