Discrimination based on age was against the law at one time is it still?
The only factor that should be considered for any position public or private is can they do the job properly.

You ever try to explain AI or socail media to a 75 year old? With such matters often the focus of legislation, it would help to have someone who grew up using a computer, is used to the predatory nature of hackers, scammers, etc...

I’m sorry…

I’m not understanding how this relates to my post.

Care to elaborate?

Men and women of a certain age are vitrually clueless as to what in cyberspace needs to be regulated much less the dual edged swords that regulation often present.

I would say 65, but I'm giving an extra 10.

75 is more than enough to do what you needed/wanted to do.

Telling old mf'ers to go F themselves and they don't matter any more sounds like a liberal idea. What's next , mandatory euthanasia once someone reaches their golden years, so that greedy government can collect the death tax?
You're such a fµcking drama queen.

Well, we have age requirements to attain office. Having age requirements for when you have to surrender office is a natural extension.

Wouldn't need age limits if we had term limits.
One term in senate, three terms in congress, a total of 6 years in Congress, max.
10 year ban on lobbying post position.
Restrictiuons needs to run the gamet of apparatchik positions as well.
That is where the real power lies in D.C. the interwoven, stratified bureaucracy.

Pilots cannot exceed a certain age. People with the lives of other people directly under their control should be limited.
Politicians hold nations. Look at Trump. He has obviously gone off the edge. Age probably played a huge part in that.

A whopping 8 out of 10 support age caps for Congress. I'm surprised by this frankly. I thought it would be majority but 80% in this atmosphere is like 100% in others.

From the piece....

While both ideas are hypothetical — neither is being seriously considered by Congress — support for each cuts across many backgrounds and party lines. The poll found that 78% of Democrats support both age caps and term limits. Eighty-three percent of Republicans backed maximum age limits, and nearly 9 in 10 supported term limits.

As for term limits; I'm a firm "no" on that. For one thing, if you have a really good, effective lawmaker...why would you want to arbitrarily have to get rid of her or him? We had a good mayor in Houston who was term limited out of office. Since he left, the city's debt has exploded (not all the fault of his successors), layoffs and furloughs have happened, etc...

We have elections on the regular. That is how you limit someone's term. Now if you want to set it at 20 years...I'll be happy to entertain that.
Term limits, not age caps

Both

Why against age caps?

We all know anyone past 70 should not hold any important political office

most people are still vital in their 70's.

Ideally Congress should not be allowed to pass any new laws until the deficit handled

Term limits encourage electing poorly qualified candidates

Not only that. It puts us at a disadvantage. Lets face it, Democrats and Republicans often appoint political allies into important jobs in the administrations. There is no "backstop" from the executive any longer. As we've seen with RFK and Blondi, they cut the truth to fit whatever serves the President. When you've had senate panels where the senators have been there through 3-4 CDC directors and 3-4 AG's, they know the BS when they hear it. When you election your local orthodontist to Congress, they are actually going to believe testimony...figuring that the empty suit in front of them was approved for their slot in the administration so they must have a clue or two.

Its a terrible idea all the way around.

The age floors we've always had for officeholders are fine, and so too would be age caps.

Seeing as these people get into politics in their 20s and 30s, I think 50 or 55 should be the cut off age for ALL political positions, except president. President should have a cut off age of 60-65.

They should ALL have to live by the same rules WE THE PEOPLE do.....

*Substandard wages
*NO cost of living raises
*Food and housing we can't afford
*Corrupt healthcare we can't afford or get
*Being forced out of the job market after 50
etc.....

Hell........If I'd known I could be in politics until the day I die.........I'd have gotten into it in my 20s!!!
Do you do anything else but whine? :abgg2q.jpg:

Over 80% of Americans support the SAVE Act. Let's see you square that circle with regard to popularity and Congress working for the people.

As for age limits, I think that 70 should be the cap.

It is 70 that SS sets the full retirement age. Seems like a good point to say, "This far, no further."
False. Full retirement age is 67 for most people now.
