So even though these expanded surveillance powers would have done nothing to stop Mateen, the FBI somehow now needs them in response? Once again, the Republican Party and conservatives show us with their actions how much they spit on the idea of limited government and relish in slowly expanding the police state, while telling you exactly the opposite.

The legislation would broaden the type of telephone and internet records the FBI could request from companies like Alphabet Inc and Verizon without a warrant. The proposal met opposition from critics who said it threatened civil liberties and did little to improve national security.

When an invasive species causes problems in any environment, it's best to keep an eye on the area and the species.

I am not at all in favor of the legislation noted above, but believe on-site surveillance and infiltration by LE is at the minimum a wise decision.
