Its root is in “divert” and diverse which means to take another path. It’s not a unification but rather a choosing of which direction to head in. Diverse also means multiple and not a solidification into one line of thinking or acting . More word change efforts imposed upon all.

True. Feet of iron and clay. Not a good mixture.

Diversity is strength.

It wins wars. Just ask somebody who unlike you, knows about such things.

America's diversity is our Army's strength

The war on diversity is also a war on veterans

I'm old, and my parents were older parents. My father was German Irish, and they didn't marry Eyetalians, and the Germans were probably not happy to see their daughters shacking up with drunken Micks.

By WWII, the Micks German and Eyetalians were all for killing Nazis and Japanese.

The real change in America, imo, is that now we're somehow ok with non-English speakers. That used to be something people were ashamed of. One of the most ironic moments of Scalia's ROME speech was when he said catholics had to adhere to non-faith issues outside their homes. Oh that poor baby.

That's not "new." There have always been non-English speakers in America. Lots of them.

The problem is that usually, except for the ones who came over here as older adults, everyone coming here prioritized learning English. It used to be the old grandma or grandpa that could only speak broken English, now you have whole families unable to conduct day to day transactions in the baseline US language.

We have gotten away from pushing assimilation in general, and I don't mean carbon copying people to be "Americans"

I mean encouraging people to accept American values and customs when they are the opposite of the values and customs these people were supposedly trying to get away from.

Europe has it far worse than the US, because at least we have two centuries of practice at it.

Just like today. If there's a difference, it's that we prioritize it MORE today.

I rented to Latino families who had no interest in learning English. Their kids did and served as interpreters when needed. One fellow had attended weekly English language classes for several years, but his English didn't improve. I guess his heart wasn't in it.

Did you attend weekly mind reading classes?

I've met some illegals who are simply crooks. Gangs run parts of my city. But of all the illegals I've met who are trying to live peaceful lives here, a good many don't want to be "American" because of how people like them are treated, but I don't recall anyone who wanted much more than to be left alone to work and live.

The only answer I've learned is that if I go into a store and spanish is spoken by employees amongst themselves, I leave.

In the Asian community? Hell yes. In the Hispanic and Muslim communities, not so much.

All the Chinese guys I played street hockey against as a teenager spoke fluent English, and 3/4 of them were born over there.

I don't care if they speak their language amongst themselves, just speak English to me when I am interacting with you.

No.

Diverse is from the Latin diversus, which means various. Whereas divert is from the Latin divertere which means to turn aside.

You started with a false premise and built your house on quicksand.

Dipshit.
