Fox news reported today that Arakawa died from Hanta virus about a week before Hackman. His COD was reported as heart disease aided by advanced Alzheimers. She died around 2/11/25 and his pacemaker quit on 2/18/25.

Given his wealth and his advanced state of Alzheimer’s, I’m surprised they didn’t engage some sort of live-in caregiver.

The wife was younger than Hackman, but she was no spring chicken. She must have had her hands full.

Other reporting is confirming that she died first of Hantavirus, and he died a week later, probably unaware she was dead because his Alzheimer's was so advanced.

Given his wealth and his advanced state of Alzheimer’s, I’m surprised they didn’t engage some sort of live-in caregiver.

Maybe she was handling it just fine until she got sick. Or maybe she was in denial like a lot of people who are for oldsters are.

Maybe she was caring for him fine. But I’m still surprised they didn’t have some sort of professional caregiver simply given they were clearly wealthy enough to do so easily.

Hackman was around for years, but you never heard about him living the Hollywood high life.

I was actually surprised to read it was 21 years since he made his last movie.

Also, instestingly, Arakawa was 31 years his junior. When they met, he was in his sixties and she was in her 30s. Mad respect.

From what I've read, they lived very private lives and their families were in CA.
