ACLU Raises Stink Over LA County's Tiny Cross

(June 1, 2004) - The American Civil Liberties Union wants to take religion out of the Los Angeles County Seal. The seal, designed by late supervisor Kenneth Hahn, contains a tiny cross -- symbolic of the Catholic missions that are so much a part of the county's history. According to the Los Angeles Times, ACLU executive director Ramona Ripstion has written a letter to the county supervisors, telling them the cross is unconstitutional and that they have two weeks to do something about it -- or they will be sued. Last February, city officials in Redlands, California, capitulated to a similar demand and removed a cross from its city seal after also being threatened by the ACLU with a lawsuit.

They must have A LOT of time on their hands, because unless you REALLY look for it, the cross isn't even that noticeable. Obviously it has been there long enough, to where no one ELSE protested. They just want another 15 minutes on the soapbox because they don't have anything legitimate to complain about.

A cross on the flag is NOT endorsing a religion. It shows the heritage of the state, which has a large Christian background, though you wouldn't know it today. I'll bet most of the Californians that are 30 or younger didn't even know that there was a cross on the flag.

All the left does lately is whine whine whine whine whine....and whine some more.

Agreed, it is nothing new. But it is important to point out the erosion of our society. Otherwise, the metamorphosis becomes so gradual that no one notices.
