According to these guys the US attacke Japan in ww2

Apparently, you are confused since you don't know about the Nazis subs seen by Americans sinking ships off the Atlantic coast of the USA. Correction it was in 1942 and not in 1941. Al died so I can't ask him the story now.
The Germans torpedoed the destroyer Reuben James on October 31st 1941, a U Boat fired torpedos twice at the destroyer USS Greer on September 4th 1941. A U Boat attempted to attack the USS Niblack as she was rescuing survivors from a Dutch merchant ship the U Boat had recently sunk on April 10th 1941. A U Boat torpedoed the USN fleet oiler USS Salina’s on September 30th 1941. A U Boat torpedoed the destroyer USS Kearney on October 17th 1941. That’s FIVE neutral U.S. warships attacked by German naval forces before Pearl Harbor.

The US declared war on Germany three days after declaring war on Japan. They declared war on Japan on Dec. 8 and on Germany on Dec. 11, 1941.

I recall this formerly navy pal of mine talking of him going on a ship hunt for Nazi subs and from what you tell us, it could be over the attacks you mention. I have not talked to Al a lot after he told me and in 2019, he died. 5 months shy of him being 100 years old.

You need to give a full and correct timeline.

7 December 1941, Japan declared war against and attacked the US.
8 December 1941, The US in return declared war against Japan.
11 December 1941, Germany declared war against the US.
11 December 1941, about 8 hours later the US in return declared war against Germany.

The simple fact is, before either of those declarations of by the US the other nation had already declared war. So all that the US did was acknowledge that a state of war existed.

Oh, and also on 11 December, Italy declared war against the US. And once again about 8 hours later the US declared war itself, acknowledging that such a state existed.

No argument. Don't understand the relevance though. I made a statement of fact. BTW, the sun rose on each of those days. You neglected that fact.

Incomplete information leads to incomplete knowledge.

The relevance is that the US did not actually initiate a declaration of war against any of the three main Axis powers. In each and every case, they declared war against the US. The US simply issued their own declaration confirming that such a status existed in order to conform to their own internal laws.

Oh, and on the same day that Japan declared war against the US in 1941, Manchukuo also declared war against the US. But the US never bothered to declare war against them.

Oh, and in 1990 Panama declared war against the US in response to the economic sanctions the US enacted. But the US never bothered to declare war against them in response.

According to Gipper and Unkotora Hawaii was not part of the US and we the US attacked Japan. Check out the thread the nuking of Nagasaki where both make the claim at the end of the thread.

You're never going to get over your anti-Japanese bigotry. It colors and warps everything you think about Pearl Harbor and WWII. You either don't know about or summarily dismiss all the scholarly research on the events leading up to Pearl Harbor and the nuking of Japan. In your mind, the only good "Jap" during the war was a dead "Jap."

I don't agree that Hawaii was not part of the U.S. Hawaii was a U.S. territory.

You've got him figured out. :113:

during the war before the bombs were dropped Japan did not try to surrender what they offered was a ceasefire and return to 1941 start lines with no consequences to Japan for starting the war. After 2 atomic weapons and war with the Soviets the Japanese Government still refused to surrender. It took the intervention of the emperor to surrender and then the Army staged a failed coup to try and stop that.

Let me quote Mike Griffith1:

I have a link to source documents on the atomic bombings, and they list what the Japanese tried to do diplomatically and at no point did Japan offer to surrender before the emperor intervened
