The answer is pretty obvious. People who agree to work with the FBI take risks, so their identities are protected. If the FBI started releasing the names of sources, it will diminish the probability that others will want to work with them in the future and therefore hamper the ability to investigate and prosecute crime.

I’m not an expert, but there may be laws protecting their privacy. If there aren’t, then the decision lies entirely with Kash Patel and the DoJ leadership.

You Can't have police afraid to do their job and put under a microscope everything they do. They have to be tough when dealing with Lawless anarchist agitators like in 2020. You can't replace them with social workers either . It's not safe for them and it's not safe for us. They also have to be paid well.
One thing Trump is doing well is lowering our crime rate. Takes a real man to do that. I don't think you would know about that quality however
