Abortion Trends Before and After Dobbs

<~~~~~~~~~~>
The latest decision by SCOTUS on RvW returned the responsibility to the states not the Federal Government.
Therefore, Blue States like California, Illinois, Minnesota, New York and Pennsylvania will continue to perform unrestricted abortions in accordance with State regulations.

And women from the states that restrict them will either go where they are not or do the telehealth route.

If one is pro-life nothing was accomplished.

You listed five states. Fact is, only 13 states have banned abortion, except for emergencies. Barbie was right: math is hard. So, 50-13 is 37, minus 5, is 32. So, you have 32 states that you forgot to mention. Oh, and they're not all what you call blue.

Fetuses were aborted, not babies and I had nothing to do with it. "we"?

Ironically, in this context, your labeling them as “fetuses” doesn’t change he the point.

“We” as a country are in this together

People who don`t like abortion shouldn`t have one. I`m in favor of people minding their own business.

I like killing babies, but I also like taking away womens’ rights.

What do I do? 🤷‍♂️

You were the one who started on the “fetus” argument, I was simply making a comparison to the number of abortions we have and the declining birth rate

Since my arrival on this forum, I have said hundreds of times that I morally supported overturning Roe v. Wade. But I also said doing so would have no impact on the number of abortions in America.

Since the Dobbs decision, my prediction has been born out, no pun intended. In fact, the number of abortions has increased since the Dobbs decision. The pro-life movement won the battle, but has lost the war.

Perhaps this will finally, finally, finally bring the pro-life extremists to their senses and start supporting measures which will actually reduce the number of abortions. In other words, we need to focus on contraception education.

Half of all abortions are the result of no form of contraception being used during intercourse which led to the unwanted pregnancy.

Half.

Another fifth are the result of the improper or inconsistent use of birth control.

Imagine the impact if we properly directed our energy at the actual solution to the abortion problem.

It's all about pragmatism over the irrational. We have let the extremists dominate the narrative with the end result of tens of millions of preventable abortions.

Abortion Trends Before and After Dobbs

  • In the three years since the Supreme Court ruling that overturned Roe v. Wade, the total number of abortions nationally has slightly increased. The most recent data from the Society for Family Planning’s #WeCount project show that the average monthly abortion volume during the first half of 2025 was higher than the monthly average in 2024. From January to June 2025, there have been more than 590,000 abortions compared to 1.14 million abortions in all of 2024 and 1.06 million abortions in 2023. For most of the decade prior to the Dobbs ruling, there was a steady decline in abortion rates nationally, with a slight uptick in the years just before the ruling.

True support of women would mean no abortion bans. They do.more harm than good. Abortions have been going down for years now. They peaked in 1990. Interestingly enough they didn't start increasing again until 2017. Ironic ! Better education and better access would help a lot but as long as humans give birth naturally there will also.be the need for abortions.

Dobbs was correct.

It is a states rights issue.

Now mothers in CALIFORNIA can murder their babies at birth. No limits.

You lefty phucks should be celebrating. YOU HAVE MORE FREEDOM. Before Dobbs, the mean FED took away womens rights in California.

Now the fed is not meddling.

It's rare that I have to disagree with you.

So, maybe you, someone with whom I agree with the vast majority of the time, can convince me that it is Constitutional for the personhood of children to vary from one state to another.

This is such a non issue.

No one has taken away rights from women to murder their babies.

You lefties would be better served to cry about Medicaid and Medicare fraud. That is a federal concern,
Can't take away a right they never had in the first place.

But the Left said that overturning Roe would end all of our abortion rights, which is why the Left tried to assassinate Justice Kavanaugh for helping to overturn it.

You mean they lied their arse off again?

The hell you say!
The Left was correct. Dobbs resulted in women losing their abortion "rights" in several states.

In fact, Texas made it illegal to give a woman a ride to an abortion!

So, with business booming at Planned Parenthood, like never before, it is a real head scratcher why the government wants to start funding them again, even with GOP support, isn't it.

Planned Parenthood provides a wide variety of women's health services, not just abortions.

Another thing I've been saying since coming to this forum is that the pro-life movement should fund women's health clinics across the street from every PP clinic. Put their money where they mouths are.

And then demand federal funding, too.

I have found some pro-life women's health clinics here and there and donated to them. I provided links to some of them some years ago.

Clinically and medically provided abortions in US physical facilities dropped by 5% in the first half of 2025, marking the first decline since the Dobbs decision, according to Guttmacher Institute data. This decline is heavily driven by 6-week bans, especially in states like Florida, and a shift toward telehealth and out-of-state virtual care. While in-clinic, formal care decreased, telehealth abortion has increased.

  • The upward trend in abortion volume is likely due to multiple reasons, including expanded telehealth capacity, the ability to mail medication abortion pills to patients, and the lower costs for telehealth abortions through virtual clinics compared to in-person care. Medication abortion via telehealth now accounts for 27% of all abortions.

I think you misunderstand the motives of your fellow "pro-life" people.

It was never about "saving the babies", it was about "Putting those uppity women in their place!"

Obviously, if you wanted to reduce the number of abortions, the way to go about that is

1) Increased availability of other contraceptives
2) Better sex education
3) Stronger social programs
4) Paid family leave
5) Universal Health Care.

France has only 60% of the abortions per capita than we do. Not because they've limited abortion. In fact, the government PAYS for abortions. But they do all the other things to prevent unplanned pregnancies or to make unplanned pregnancy less of an impact than it would normally be.

But for the Anti-Abortion Crowd, they don't like women having sex outside of marriage for reasons other than making babies.
I've been advocating for more contraception education from the get-go.

Personhood begins with birth. That's why we have birth dates. Before that time a human embyo exists. Human tissue but not a person. It is delusional to.entertain.the idea that a fetus is more than just that.
