A very specific "off ramp" to end to the shutdown, majority rules. (Poll)

What ideas do you support to end the shutdown when neither party gives in?

  • Pass clean CR via simple majority after (14) days, simple majority after that to pass appropriations

    Votes: 5 25.0%
  • Just go full nuclear for passing Appropriations Bills, a simple majority, no CRs, majority rules

Read it. I doesn't say anything.

You said:
Pass a balanced budget bill. The Dems can block it and end the federal gov't.

A balanced budget bill can simply be voted down if the Democrats regain power. How will you get it past a Senate filibuster?
How will blocking another meaningless bill end the federal government?

See? Meaningless claptrap is all you have.

The Dems are not in power.

If the Dems filibuster, they keep the gov't shutdown going. They cannot stand that.

Grow a pair.

Make filibusters mean what they were originally intended to mean.

I have no interest in seeing someone remain standing for hours on end without water or taking a break. The whole idea of that is moronic.

What I'm talking about is this: When a bill gets filibustered, the whole Senate shuts down until either the filibuster is withdrawn or a cloture is passed. Meaning that they don't go home. Meaning that no other legislation gets passed. Meaning that SS checks don't go out if there is no funding. The Army doesn't get funded.

This should be codified in the Constitution (along with a great many other measures) to ensure that future Senates do not change the rule. Set the cloture at 75 votes--super majority.

Then you will see, gasp...politicians bargaining with one another; trading votes, etc... The way it used to work back when we were building the greatest nation to ever inhabit the planet.

Its a small move on a much larger chessboard but it's necessary.

I have been in favor of bringing back the talking filibuster for twenty years.

Harry Reid should have done it in 2009.

That isn’t true. You don’t know how filibusters work.

I really don't want to see that. For one thing, the entire exercise is silly. Someone has to stand there, talk, they can't sit down? Its bizarre on the face of it, discriminates against someone who may have physical handicapped, and (one test I put out for almost all things); if we were starting it today...would we put these draconian and bizarre requirements on lawmakers? Nope.

Elections have consequences. Democrats are being unreasonable even after Republicans passed 13 CRs during Biden.

We cant be held hostage. If the shutdown goes past14-days Thune should go nuclear.

How long should government workers go without a paycheck? Two weeks is more than long enough.
They shouldn’t even notice two weeks. A month might affect them a little, three would hurt unless they were smart enough to prepare.

Meanwhile back in reality....

Flood prone areas (largely in red states) are seeing a delay in home sales. Why? Because flood insurance isn't being sold due to the Trump shutdown.

The budget is the most important thing Congress does.
True, but it happens every year and we can't seem to ever get to 60 votes on any of the 12 appropriations bills, so we need to make government function, and caving in to "the tyranny of the minority" is not an option.
And you're completely wrong about the "olden days". In olden days, there was some loyalty to the republic. Now it's loyalty to Trump and little else. Back in the day, we had professional politicians who negotiated for the greater good and built the greatest nation on the planet. Now? We have morons like Tommy Tuberville who get elected to high office because they were a mediocre football coach; you could say the same thing about Al Franken who got elected on name recognition only as well. These people aren't exactly deep thinkers.
Voters elect who they want. I can point to the democrat's "squad" as unprofessional radicals.
Politics is a profession best left to the professionals. Today, we have a child-like blob in the oval office so naturally the nation's politics are in a state of complete chaos most of the time. Aren't you guys tired of it?
Nope, never tire of Trump's fantastic policies. He knows that the $37T debt , and the $1T interest cost annually needs to be addressed now before the dollar collapses. His use of tariffs to get a new $400b a year in revenue is a very good start.
The BBB cutting $1.5T off Biden's last budget is also fantastic.
i can agree that his posts could be more presidential, but he is a real president, with real press conferences, and knows everything about the major issues, compared to the senile moron who is now called the "autopen president" because his staff ran the country.

Strange how these shut downs never seem to happen until the GOP wants to do something insane. In the last term, you blob shut down the government to get his wall built. This time, he wants to blow apart health insurance.

And they have almost zero political power. Comparing the two is rather moronic.

Oh...did he find that out after adding $8T in debt in his first term? LOL

Money that could be used for business expansion by the importers is now being turned over to the government...the thing you hate most in the world. Or are you still pretending exporters pay tariffs?

CBO says its' going to add $3T in new debt. That's "fantastic" in your book?

Child please.... dumbfuck didn't even know people died from the flu.

Democrats are all in on supporting illegals no matter what. They need them to be counted in the 2030 census to prevent a loss of at least12 seats in the house
