A very specific "off ramp" to end to the shutdown, majority rules. (Poll)

What ideas do you support to end the shutdown when neither party gives in?

  • Pass clean CR via simple majority after (14) days, simple majority after that to pass appropriations

  • Just go full nuclear for passing Appropriations Bills, a simple majority, no CRs, majority rules

How long can the shutdown last? A month? Two months?

We have two entrenched/obstinate political parties, neither willing to compromise.

The military and other "essential workers" get screwed by having their paychecks held up, but their bills aren't.

Here is one possibility:
1. Sen. Thune re-writes the senate rules for shutdowns, that if a shutdown lasts longer than 14-days, a clean CR can be passed by a simple majority.

2. If that CR expires, appropriations bills can also be passed with a simple majority.

The United States of America should not be held hostage by either political party. The senate majority, with the VP breaking ties, should be able to pass a budget.

Considering what Wall Street did today, the shutdown can go on for months.

Elections have consequences. Democrats are being unreasonable even after Republicans passed 13 CRs during Biden.

We cant be held hostage. If the shutdown goes past14-days Thune should go nuclear.

How long should government workers go without a paycheck? Two weeks is more than long enough.

Make filibusters mean what they were originally intended to mean.

I have no interest in seeing someone remain standing for hours on end without water or taking a break. The whole idea of that is moronic.

What I'm talking about is this: When a bill gets filibustered, the whole Senate shuts down until either the filibuster is withdrawn or a cloture is passed. Meaning that they don't go home. Meaning that no other legislation gets passed. Meaning that SS checks don't go out if there is no funding. The Army doesn't get funded.

This should be codified in the Constitution (along with a great many other measures) to ensure that future Senates do not change the rule. Set the cloture at 75 votes--super majority.

Then you will see, gasp...politicians bargaining with one another; trading votes, etc... The way it used to work back when we were building the greatest nation to ever inhabit the planet.

Its a small move on a much larger chessboard but it's necessary.

Democrats being unreasonable is putting it lightly, they're being stupid.

I would imagine government workers going without a paycheck may be rough, but when it's over and done with they'll get back pay.

The way is was when democrats still had the nation's interest in mind and not Soro's global vision for a one world gov't that is paid for by the American tax payer. There I fixed it for you. The democrat party is a party of traitors.

No, then the Dims in the Senate go unpunished for their acts.

Do you find it strange that even when the democrats have both houses of Congress and the Presidency; they don't usher in any of this "one world government" nonsense you guys keep harping on?

Those government workers know who is holding up their paychecks, and it is not the Republicans.

Republicans do not want to be seen as hypocrites like the Dems were. They will cave by the 15th.

I suppose you slept through Joe Biden and the democrats agreeing to be dictated to by the WHO? Maybe you should take the blinders off and pay attention.

Disagree.

Why give the Democrats a chance to accuse the GOP of "cheating?" Sure, they would have to lie to do that, but the media will back them up on the lies and the sheep will believe them.

The Democrats wanted this, let them decide when to end it.

Sooner or later, they will go hat in hand to Donald Trump and ask for some face-saving compromise. He'll grant it, he'd rather give the Democrats some face than watch the country suffer - not that we've suffered much from this yet.
