A very specific "off ramp" to end to the shutdown, majority rules. (Poll)

What ideas do you support to end the shutdown when neither party gives in?

  • Pass clean CR via simple majority after (14) days, simple majority after that to pass appropriations

  • Just go full nuclear for passing Appropriations Bills, a simple majority, no CRs, majority rules

How long can the shutdown last? A month? Two months?

We have two entrenched/obstinate political parties, neither willing to compromise.

The military and other "essential workers" get screwed by having their paychecks held up, but their bills aren't.

Here is one possibility:
1. Sen. Thune re-writes the senate rules for shutdowns, that if a shutdown lasts longer than 14-days, a clean CR can be passed by a simple majority.

2. If that CR expires, appropriations bills can also be passed with a simple majority.

The United States of America should not be held hostage by either political party. The senate majority, with the VP breaking ties, should be able to pass a budget.
We can keep it shut down for three more years as far as I’m concerned. The most important parts will be funded so let the rest just stay shut down.

I do think Congress and the senate pay should be cut as well. I’m thinking the national income average is good enough.

Don't go nuclear on these bills. You are asking for runaway spending if you do this. Far worse than the current uncontrolled spending we have now. No. NO. BAD.

How about years?

The government never actually shuts down. Anything deemed vital and essential to governmental action never closes.

But now would be a good time to hang up all paychecks to Congress from the day the government shuts down to the day it opens again.

Why should these fuckers get paid for not doing their jobs? Give these people personal incentives (and cost) for keeping government open.

Worse, why should any democrat get rewarded with treasonous behavior deliberately blocking government operation hoping it'll interfere in an administration?

J6 interfered in government operation for 2-4 hours and were called insurrectionists.

So what do you call Democrats who have now blocked all government operation for three solid days???

Get off your proverbial ass and propose an amendment then. that is het your Congressman or Senator to do it! All talk and no action makes you boring as hell!

You need a constitutional amendment. Time to get hot!

I'd like to agree, but that would leave the government shut down most of Trump's term.

Worse, it will be hard for the GOP to win the midterms if the government is shut down a whole year, and the GOP needs to win the midterms to take over congress and pass most of Trump's EOs into permanent law.

It’s the original Constitution. The Feds only have one job. Defense. The rest can go back to the states.
Can you please quote me where it is covered? I recommend you read the 27th Amendment.

"No law, varying the compensation for the services of the Senators and Representatives, shall take effect, until an election of Representatives shall have intervened."

In other words, any changes will not take effect until after the 2026 election, and you would have to convince Congress to cut their own pay.

Good point.

I hate to point out that the Republicans already control Congress. What they need is total control over the Senate's filibuster limit of 60 votes.

We all know that’s not going to fly.

Do you find it strange that even when the democrats have both houses of Congress and the Presidency; they don't usher in any of this "one world government" nonsense you guys keep harping on?

They don't have to because RINO"s always cave.

In that case, you should stop advocating for something that will never happen according to you! That leads to unnecessary disappointment when it won't happen.
I can certainly advocate for anything I want to. If enough people agree we can make those changes.

Do you think they deserve 275k a year?
