President Trump signs bill to reopen government, ending longest shutdown in US history

Except maybe less Federal idiots on the road.
The down side of that was they were tooling about town all day.....Being retired I much prefer the lemmings to head into NotVA/DC every morning.

There was one eatery in town I get take-out from about once a week where they would have your order ready in about 20 minutes around lunch time....Due to .gov lemming demand during the shutdown it lengthened into 40 min.

It seems like Schumer didn't come out as well as he thought he would during his little political temper tantrum.

And that's that.

[PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT]

Contrary to what you have been told...

..... ..... The government did not shut down...

..... ..... ..... ..... The government has been in a "slow down"...

..... ..... ..... ..... ..... ..... Most were still reporting to work and all will be paid.

This shit won't end until we require that the government shut down 100%.

Thank you for your attention in this matter when Congress fails to pass appropriations.

President Donald Trump late Wednesday signed a funding package to reopen the federal government, officially bringing a close to the longest shutdown in history.

The final approval came hours after the House voted 222 to 209 to pass a deal struck between Republicans and centrist Senate Democrats that keeps the government running through January and ensures some key agencies will be funded for the remainder of fiscal year 2026.

The agreement, which ended a record 43-day stalemate in Congress, will also reverse the mass federal layoffs carried out by Trump during the shutdown. It paves the way for paychecks to flow to government employees, as well as the resumption of critical food and nutrition services relied on by tens of millions of Americans.

Trump on Wednesday night cast the legislation as a victory over Democrats, calling it “a clear message that we will never give in to extortion, because that’s what it was, they tried to extort.”

“They didn’t want to do it the easy way,” he said from the Oval Office, attacking what he called “the extremists” in the Democratic Party. “They had to do it the hard way, and they look very bad.”

The White House signing ceremony was attended by a range of Republican lawmakers and capped a four-day sprint to pass the funding bill, after eight Senate Democrats broke ranks to compromise with Republicans amid worries about the shutdown’s widening economic consequences.

Thank goodness it's over with for now.

At lest there were a baker's dozen dems between the House and Senate that decided to do what was best for the country.

So what did the Democrats accomplish by shutting down the government, and what concessions did they get for all their hard work?

Democraps don't care if they got anything accomplished or not. So long as they control the media, they control the messaging. As to any damage to the country, democraps are children; they are like a kid who strikes a match and wonders: "Gee, I wonder what would happen if I threw this lit match in my neighbor's gas tank?!

Just as the neighbor takes the brunt of their stupidity with a blown up car, democrats don't care because they won't suffer, it will be the taxpayers left stuck with a blown up country.

And that is their dividend: anything to make Trump's time in office run less smoothly.

Honest question:

If there were true government shutdown when Congress doesn't do their job as I've described...
  • All government functions cease.
  • No Law Enforcement (including FBI, ATF, ICE, Secret Service, etc.)
  • No Courts
  • No cutting ANY checks (because there are not employees working)
  • No Air Traffic, No Rail, Seaports closed because no customs
  • etc...
Would Congress do it's job and fund operatgions without shutdowns or shutdowns (actually slowdowns) would continue as we have seen them over the last few decades?

A. Congress would do their jobs and ensure funding didn't lapse.

or

B. Congress would NOT do their jobs and allow a true governemnt shutdown.
.
.
.
.
The point isn't to have an apocalypse, the point it is prevents shutdowns as Congress wouldn't dare let a true shutdown happen.
