"Was Someone Trolling Trump by Playing Creedence’s Draft-Dodger-Slamming ā€˜Fortunate Son’ at His Military Parade? Or Is It Just the Further Death of Irony?"

"That’s the question some were asking on social media after the event, spearheaded by President Donald J. Trump, which featured the repeated playing of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s classic ā€œFortunate Sonā€ — a song that virtually the entire world knows by now was written during the Vietnam era as a slam against wealthy draft dodgers."

Or do you think Trump had it chosen just so he could rub it in the military's face and have a laugh at them?

It's a great song and I never interpreted as a draft dodger song tbh. I viewed it as an anti-war song and a statement against the elite. Perhaps an ironic song for the occassion but CCR represent good southern rock and I've not heard anyone ever say they disliked that song.

Very true, but doesn't fit the narrative the OP wanted.

Maybe not, but surely a person like Trump has people that know the connotations of such songs.

Even if it's against the elite and anti-war, still seems the wrong thing to play, don't you think?

Really? Do you not know the lyrics?

I can't believe the excuses made for an obese orange clown.

I suppose he does hate the same people as his supporters, eh?

So where are the suggestions henismdodging the draft? "It aint me, it aint me". Just suggests he isn't a fan of war not that he is going to dodge a draft.
'I ain't no Senator's son'

The senator's son dodged the draft because his father had influence.

Jesus.

So he isnt saying HE is going to dodge the draft. He isn't a Fortunate One so he is going to have to go to war.

Yes, because the senator has sold him down the river by arranging for the senator's son to dodge the draft.

I can't believe I have to explain this. I start to see now why you have so many things arse backwards.

I view the song differently. As I said, anti war and a shot at the elite. He isnt talking about dodging the draft.

It's not about draft dodgers. It's about how the elite send the poor off to die in wars they won't fight in themselves.

The opposite of what Trump is doing.

DURRRRRR

Oh? How about billy boy? There are a whole host of politicians who never served.

No one says he is talking about himself dodging the draft. He says other people's fathers can pay to dodge the draft and that's why he's there in their place. Where did you mention a shot at the elite?
