A rant about the cost of living

Because you are paying for:
  • The wholesale price of the food
  • The wages of the McDonalds worker
  • The transportation of the food from the farm (that's more labor)
  • The utilities used in the McDonalds
  • The insurance (that's through the roof also)
  • Possibly, the interest on the loan on the property
It wasn't a McDonald's. Assuming the costs are relatively the same as the surrounding McDonald's, Wendy's, and Jack in the Box the price shouldn't be that much higher.

and here you are three thousand miles away, having absolutely no idea how electricity rates in California compare to neighboring states.........

Nope. It’s a case of inviro wackism.
That's a lot of the problem out there. Green energy sounds great until the bill comes due. Not building more power plants even though your population is growing, and then wondering why you have to race to catch up, and your costs are through the roof, is a bad strategy.

Another comment, it's an important one, so write it down.

The schools fill up their days teaching DEI, Trump hate, reparations, English Literature, Shakespeare, art, music, foreign languages, even chemistry, biology and physics have no real world need for most students and all 3 should probably be made electives.

But yet there's no time to teach finance, not even a single course.

Now, why do you think that is???

b) a restructuring of law that doesn't allow private equity to swallow up half the ******* homes and apartment buildings in the country for rental investments.
.
Bingo.

But let's blame the Mexicans.

.

Under Biden, the housing/rent market rose at the fastest rate in U.S. history.
Believe it or not, home prices have actually been lowering since 2023.
But the highs were so insane by Q4 2022 - that there is a loooong way to lower before they can get back to trends.
One thing I can say - I pity the people who were dumb enough to buy a home between mid 2021 - 2023. You are now underwater in your loan. You likely owe as much or more than you can sell it for.
Hello 2008.
.

Trump actuallly bragged about this:

  • Home prices hit an all-time record high.

Yep, life gets a bit pricey. Then you throw in the "necessities" like the latest smartphone, unlimited phone plan, unlimited internet, Starbucks twice a day, a car less than 2 years old, and eating out 3-4 times a week., $300 jeans and $400 tennis shoes.
$400 tennis shoes? You mean those golden one Trump sells?

Only the top ten percent live like that.

People earning an average income do not live like that, despite what your MAGA media tells you.

Ordinary people are hurting, and Trump does not give a shit.

The are the most billionaires in history in Trump's administration, and you poor saps believe him when he tells you he's looking out for the little guy.

He's looking for ways to GRIFT the little guy.
.

The general idea I'm getting from the responses in this thread is that costs are high because of greed. So whats the answer? Price controls? Government control of corporations pricing structures?

You are being ridiculous How would she be married with roommates? There's a red flag right there.
She may be talking about her kids or people she knows.

My oldest daughter went out house/apartment shopping with her best friend. They quit after one day, and she still lives with us.

Even with a roommate, a place to live was far out of reach. This is two kids earning minimum wage, and they can't make it on their own.

My daughter is now in college in a career path that will probably earn her more than I make. But in the meantime, she will have to live under my roof.

Speaking of college, that is also out of reach for most Americans. It pisses me off when assholes talk about struggling people as having made bad life choices.

I make a nice pile of money. I may be in the top ten percent I mentioned earlier, and when I go out shopping or to eat, I always wonder how people earning the average income are surviving.

Soone or later, there are going to be torches and pitchforks in the streets, and it won't be about an election Big Lie.

.

Talk to your local franchisee and ask them how they like their second yacht.

You are clueless.

.
Depends on the franchisee and the franchisor.
McDonalds owners make a huge profit and if they have multiple stores, they probably are living the good life on yachts. On the opposite side Subway franchisees are losing their shirts in a lot of cases. Most other ones are somewhere in the middle of these extremes.

This is a rant! The younger generation is really screwed these days with high costs for rent, housing, insurance, new and used cars, not to mention everything else.

She even has roommates, and still can't pay the bills.

I have a lot to say about this, and she's not completely out of line, but want to hear some other opinions.

Bub...illegals gang up 10 to a 1 bedroom and split the rent. Even 4 or 5 negresses can't compete. Possibly part of a bigger plan to destroy the working class and get down to the elite's plan for a 500,000,000 person world.

Lie.

Why do you fools keep spewing this lie when you know it is a lie?

United States produces more crude oil than any country, ever

.

Remember that promise Trump made that he would lower grocery prices on day one? Guess what.
Trump has put in policies that will lower prices if they ever do. Coming off of Covid and shifting away from our oil spigot replacing it with the green scam was not smart. Progs did not even try to delay it. Living with the environmentally induced 2030 end of the world crap.

I feel bad for this younger generation and the generation before, but there is no escaping the fact that things are more competitive today and people are just going to have to play the game smarter if they want to get ahead. Spending 100K on a Transgender Studies Degree is going to be really hard to pay back on a McDonald's wage. Spending 100K on an Engineering Degree will pay for itself in a few years and then it becomes a major cash cow. That kind of stuff. More importantly, if one can't afford life, what are they doing posting on and viewing TikTok all day long?
Very, very few people can afford $100K for college.

Very few.

Especially the way the thieving college loan servicers operate.

.

Simple: leave California. There's a whole country out there. That's what most smart people are doing. moving to states with no income tax. That's why I moved to TN. I was tired of my previous state from taking 6% of my income before I ever saw a dime.
Property prices are much cheaper in Mississippi.

But then you have to live in Mississippi...

.

In perfect agreement. MAGA is the party of the middle class and I now support it. The democraps are the party of the elite and they can go fcuk themselves. My only addition is that Trump can't do everything, even much at all. These young people need better parents who bring their children up to be productive and innovative, not transgender and psychotic.
Don't get it. We sure do have plenty of rich Dems,
And this administration has more Billionaires.
What's Your Point?
That politicians fill their pockets first?
