A rant about the cost of living

Yet - while this article was written, the Biden administration and the Democrats, and their media were downplaying it and saying it wasn't real.
Yep, it was "transitory" not real inflation.
Then when Trump was imposing reciprocal tariffs they were all screaming "inflation!, recession!, danger Will Robinson", and what we got was new revenue of $500b a year and lower inflation, and US families doing better financially.

In all seriousness - what you see in this video is yet another GenZ who was raised by parents who did a horrible job preparing her for the realities of adult life.
The transition from the glory days of childhood to the demands of adult life is not easy for any young person. But if your parents overly protected you, schools with safe spaces and all manner of policies so no one gets their feelz hurt - one day - they walk out of childhood, look around and scream like this.

This is a rant! The younger generation is really screwed these days with high costs for rent, housing, insurance, new and used cars, not to mention everything else.

She even has roommates, and still can't pay the bills.

I have a lot to say about this, and she's not completely out of line, but want to hear some other opinions.

She obviously had money to waste on those ugly glasses, fake nails, and that booger catcher nose piercing. She has money! She just wastes it. No sympathy.

I am at a point in my life where I don't have to worry about my spending, but some things have gotten outrageously expensive, and I find myself just bypassing things because I don't want to get screwed. I just bought a "new" six-year-old car because I refuse to pay fifty grand for some mediocre piece of new shit.

I stopped into Panera Bread yesterday to get a bowl of soup - their food is excellent - and I noticed that their SOFT DRINKS are $3.59! Are you shitting me? Three dollars and fifty nine cents for a Coke? Just one example. I got a cup of tap water, and survived to talk about it.
You need to look at what kind of car you are looking for. I bought a very nice brand-new Toyota for less than $30K about a year ago.

That's why I don't eat at Panera.

In California, the PG&E rates are outrageous. It is a case of price gouging by a monopoly.
Just another in a long list of reasons to leave the People's Republic of California.

20 years ago, my daughter's rent for a one-bedroom apartment just east of San Diego was twice my mortgage payment for a 2000 square foot house in KY. I am sure it is far worse now.

Nope. It’s a case of inviro wackism.
I heard that the folks in CA that installed solar at their homes and had an excess of power to return to the grid used to get a retail credit.....Now they just basically steal it.

Due to a change in state law, homeowners, who had received retail prices for selling their excess solar power to the grid, now will be paid wholesale prices, which in some cases approach zero.

Paying for the TRILLIONS of useless money Biden added during his term

Trump needs to either cut spending or annex Greenland and Alberta or both

Surely the simple answer is to vote trump and everything will be fine. Get rid of that biden character.

Because you are paying for:
  • The wholesale price of the food
  • The wages of the McDonalds worker
  • The transportation of the food from the farm (that's more labor)
  • The utilities used in the McDonalds
  • The insurance (that's through the roof also)
  • Possibly, the interest on the loan on the property
You left out the Franchisee’s 2nd yatch.

In General Admiral I am in agreement with you most of the time. However, glasses are one-time cost. If you are far sighted you have to buy them retail mostly with prescription. $100 hair and nails? Once a month? Maybe she works and has to look good. Yes its costly out there. Leave these kids alone.

I see a wedding ring? What's the old man making?

Cars cost a lot in CA. License, insurance, maintenance, gas. No matter what it is over $500/mo unless you pay cash for the car..

Need $4K-$5K per month in CA just to survive. Doing nothing. That was since 09'? After massive taxes on single income. All hidden taxes fees fines. Its pretty bad out yonder. Hard to get out, once "established".

Leave these kids alone out there boomers.

You are being ridiculous How would she be married with roommates? There's a red flag right there.

Stopping corporate home-buying/renting out and cracking down on how much local governments are taxing people on homes and rental properties. Not many are talking about it, but it's criminal the way they do.
Municipalities have been getting their slice of pie out of the middle, from the corporate homebuyers and people
and subsidized illegals, too.
So now, instead of money going to the people and getting spread around and lifting everybody up, it's going to the government to be wasted, and waste it they will.
Home values and taxes have to drop, by a serious percentage.
4X increase on property taxes if you rent it out? That's bullshit!
It's some serious Cracker-Taxin' going on around here.

I feel bad for this younger generation and the generation before, but there is no escaping the fact that things are more competitive today and people are just going to have to play the game smarter if they want to get ahead. Spending 100K on a Transgender Studies Degree is going to be really hard to pay back on a McDonald's wage. Spending 100K on an Engineering Degree will pay for itself in a few years and then it becomes a major cash cow. That kind of stuff. More importantly, if one can't afford life, what are they doing posting on and viewing TikTok all day long?
