The SENSIBLE thing to do would be to create a guest worker program like they have in Germany. Seasonal workers come for a while from poorer countries to do unsavory jobs and go home when they've made enough money.

The thing about border security is that a border crosser can try again the next day. and the next day. And the day after that. ANd eventually, he's going to get through.

Wasn't really a problem when they were just migrant workers doing agricultural or light construction. They'd come up, work, and then go home.

I think your numbers are a bit dubious. Best estimates put the illegal population at about 11 million.

Visa overstayers aren't crossing the border illegally. They came here on a legal visa that they overstayed. Most of them end up going home or end up being sent home, they aren't the problem.

As for refugees, refugees are legal and there's a legal framework for admitting them.
