By 1860, the people in favor of slavery were a minority even in the proto-Confederate states. A large number accepted it as an unfortunate fact and a nearly equal number were abolitionists. What none of them were was pro-black. You could not find more than a few thousand people in the entire USA that believed any black was equal to any white. By modern standards the most ardent abolitionist was an utter racist.Wrong.
If one went by majority rule, then we could still have slavery.
The way law really works, is that this is supposed to be a constitutional republic with judicial safeguards for the rights of any single individual.
The facts are those south of the border have many valid rights to be here.
One is that their ancestors obviously migrated from the north, so had to live in what is now the US, at one time.
Two is that we guaranteed the rights of Mexicans in the Treaty of Guadelupe Hildalgo, since the states were purchased were mostly Spanish Land Grants.
Three is that the descendants of European invaders are the ones with no right to be here. We murdered in order to steal the land. That invalidates our claim.
