Open borders and diversity in general aren't about the melting pot or providing asylum. It's about cheap labor. If it really was about asylum, you wouldn't see so many on the left freaking out about white refugees from South Africa.

The cheap labor motive goes back to the 1800s. Back then, it was a combination of Chinese labor (for the railroads) and European labor (for the factories). The "free" states might have rejected slavery, but they created a labor system not far removed from slavery, and one where labor was actually more disposable than slaves.

Not much has changed since then. From 1965 onward, we just get our cheap labor from Latin America, Asia, and Africa.

Creating a social paradigm where demanding border security and deportations are decried as racism is pretty ingenious though. The elites figured out how to play the social left like a fiddle. It's probably because the social left doesn't understand how economics work. A free flow of cheap labor drives down wages in a multitude of markets, and over time, citizens refuse to work in those sectors. This then creates an illusion that "citizens would never work these jobs, so we need immigrants." They would work these jobs if they didn't pay like shit, because they did work those jobs before wage depression.

Then, add to this a manufactured demographic crisis via the proliferation of birth control and increasing the cost of living through Boomer economic policies, and you're left with the illusion that we need immigrants to keep the population up. Native births would be much higher were it not for the various chemicals and "therapeutics" we've been exposed to that lower fertility.

In short, elites created all the necessary conditions to push an immigration narrative, so that they can have free access to their wage slaves.
