It was what we agreed to when we purchased about a third of the US.
It says we have to honor old Spanish land grants, not force Mexican land owners or workers to become US citizens, and not interfere in their lives, commerce, movement, etc. in any way.

That's a new one on this semi-professional historian who understands the ancestors of the Mayans and Aztecs and Indians/Native Americans were most likely Asian. Many inhabitants of Mexico, Central America and Caribbean islands are of Spanish ancestry. The Spaniards certainly did not migrate from the American north.
