It's not convoluted, it is the law and the NY law has been used several times in the past with political candidates and with campaign finance laws being the second crime connected to falsifying their business records. Cohen, Trump's employee, committed campaign finance law violations and New York election law violations....it was proven that the Trump org falsified their business records which covered up Cohen's crimes. BOOM! Felony!

All he had to do, is be truthful in his business records for the hush money payment...but he just couldn't do that....and NOW he blames everyone else for his own lies and coverup.
