In North Dakota the jobs were created by the oil boom, in other words by the private sector. Where as Texas did create 1 million new jobs in the last decade, mostly low paying. Texas leads the nation in Minimum Wage jobs. Secondly, the job growth didn't keep up with the population growth. Still, the private sector did the hiring.
But in the Big Picture, new jobs and wage growth have not kept up with profits. Somebody isn't doing their job. Companies are not investing enough in capital growth. That in itself is rather risky for the investor. Who would want to make along term investment in a company that is not investing in itself to stay competitive?
