I take back what I said. I have overstated the extent to which the 2020 platform was thrown to Trump, however they did adopt Trump's 50 platitudes rather than change the platform, which no one read or cared about anyway, least of all Trump.
Trump was able to bend the Republican party agenda to his desire, causing whiplash for some of these people, including his base. The Republican base, once rabidly pro-war, transformed itself to the party of isolationism. Similar issue with protectionism. The Republican base has absolutely followed suit, as now the party is staunchly anti-war and staunchly free trade.
That said, other parts of the Republican party are still as homogenous as always. Abortion, taxes, etc.
To be frank, the Republican party is not motivated by policy. They're really operating mostly on emotional appeals.
As for saying he doesn't care who gets credit, you have to be absolutely kidding me. He complained constantly he wasn't getting enough credit. Don't forget he got his name put on the stimulus checks, which was bizarre and pointless.
RCFP attorneys, representing ABC News, recently settled a FOIA lawsuit against the Treasury Department for records concerning Trump’s signature on checks that went out in 2020.
