Just after midnight on July 30, 1945, two Japanese torpedoes hit the USS Indianapolis (CA-35), and she quickly sank. About 900 men went into the water and four days later just over 300 were alive to be rescued. It remains the worst casualty event ever for the sinking of a single US Navy ship.

Thankful for the late Paul Allen, himself a huge WWII buff, sports fan (owner of Portland Trailblazers and Seattle Seahawks) and fan of history, who used his funds to find this shipwreck in 2017, after being lost on the ocean floor for 72 years.
