It was first reported as a 7.8 earlier today. I guess it was stronger than first thought.

Japan uses a different scale than the US does. I found that out after the big one when I had family there.

They always revise initial mags down. Usually just by 0.1 though. 8.5 down to 7.8 is a huge downgrade.

It would be bad. So much exposed radiation in containers there a tsunami would wash it all inland, probably breaking containment and flooding the countryside with radioactive waste.
