Donald Trump could have cleared up confusion and hastened the arrival of National Guard troops to quell the Capitol riot if he’d called Pentagon leaders on Jan. 6, 2021, according to recent closed-door congressional testimony by two former leaders of the D.C. guard.

Michael Brooks, the senior enlisted leader of the D.C. guard at the time of the riot, and Brigadier Gen. Aaron Dean, the adjutant general of the D.C. guard at the time, told House Administration Committee staffers that if Trump had reached out that day — which, by all accounts, he did not — he might have helped cut through the chaos amid a tangle of conflicting advice and miscommunication.

Could the president have picked up the phone, called the secretary of defense, and said, you know, ‘What’s going on here?’ Our law enforcement is getting overrun, make this happen!’” a committee staffer asked Brooks, according to the transcript of a previously unreported March 14 interview reviewed by POLITICO.

I assume he could expedite an approval through the Secretary of Defense, through the Secretary of the Army,” Brooks replied.

Nope, been here, done that, the President of the United States leads the executive branch of government and can not order military troops to the Legislative branch of government, that is congress.

Congress refused the National Guard prior to the Jan. 6th, according to the same departments testifying now.

Might have, does not change a thing and should not be allowed in any testimony of such things that have grave consequences for our nation.

That Trump intentionally did nothing for more than two hours while his lawless, violent supporters committed their acts of domestic terrorism is one of countless reasons why Trump is unfit to hold any public office.

As usual, your Looneytunes comment is pure bs.
Piglosi refused any assistance, she was the one who could have done something is she chose to.
But wow, that flag and baby carriage crowd sure was violent.....

Trump the executive branch of government could not order the military to invade the legislative branch of government. That is what we here in the USA call the separation of powers.

On top of that, the Democrats had already refused the National Guard the days prior.

Time to get rid of the democrats in congress if they refuse to be held accountable for their actions and their responsibility to protect themselves and the capitol.

So, you're admitting that there was a tangle of conflicting advice and miscommunication?

"according to recent closed-door congressional testimony by two former leaders of the D.C. guard."

That right there means they are not telling the whole truth. Let's see all the testimony not just what Trump haters leaked. You gullible idiots.

The Reich Wing Fallacy that then Speaker Pelosi could have called out the D.C.N.G. is exactly that, a fallacy. Both she and Senator Schumer were filmed begging for law enforcement to come out and take care of riot, but for some reason (Don Snoreleoni) such assistance was slow to repond.

The Mayor of D.C. has not authority call out the D.C.N.G., that power rests with the Secretary of Army. P01135809 deliberately refused plea's from the Speaker and Schumer for assistance. The U.S.C.H.P. were overwhelmed and needed all the help they could get and that help did not arrive for at least two hours. Over 140-Law Enforcement Officers were injured on that day, by people who were ordered there by P01135809. He told them to, "Fight Like Hell". He send them there to violently overthrow the Democraticlly elected Government of the United States.

He failed to protect the U.S. Capitol Building, is fucking coward/

Yep, this just further confirms what most sane people already knew.

Trump could have helped response to Jan. 6 riot — but didn't
