6th annual USMB March Madness pool

I got beat 4-1 on buzzer beater type games I had picked. Only won Iowa over FLA. Lost DUKE today. KS, Kentucky and other close ones. Lost USF? Lost VANDERBILT? It aint easy. But I missed boat on UofA & MICH. They are up there.

I was right on Ill. I had them in the final 2. Hope so.

I'm out of USMB pool on DUKE . MM and others still alive?

I underestimated MICH from TMT start because they did not look good in Big ten TMT. They beat a very good SLU team in game 1 and I wished I picked them farther in work pool.

ALA did not play D against them. Mich dominated 2nd half. SLU did play D (at least tried to).

Same for ARIZ. I had Purdue to beat them. AZ dominated 2nd half. Have a very good big guy. But AZ lost to HOU in the Big12? HOU was not a great team this yr. You can only out hustle or bully weaker teams? Yet they beat UofA.
The Wildcats had several wins over top 10 teams and they won the Big 12 regular season and the Big 12 tournament. They are 36-2 with two close losses when Koa Peat was injured. I guess they are over-rated.

A final 4 victory counts for 5 points

remember that MarathonMike is currently under investigation for performance enhancing Viagra, and 2nd place is still worth $25 (first place is $50)

Michigan will beat Arizona by 20 points.

On the other side, I think Illinois takes out UConn, then Michigan beats Illinois leading to a tie at 34.5 between Mike and leftwinger

Lots of teams had 30+ wins. High Point, Miami Oh. Regular season? Uh...OK. I'm in no way down on Big12 teams believe me. I've picked them deep many years.

But now with NIL its all new and different. I was wrong on AZ & MICH both. I said that above. They look to be the best going into the Final4. But they dont re-seed.

I start looking and picking only when the Conference TMTs start up. The best was the SEC I thought. Wrong. Only because they played each other.

Wasn't thrilled to select DUKE here as my #1 but it appeared they had the easiest bracket to advance.

What the heck you want me to say? UofA is the best team ever in the history of basketball. OK they might be.

My lawyers are already challenging this outrageous allegation!

Duke did not need to advance the ball past half court, hold the ball, take the foul, make 2 free throws and game over.

Crazy stat, the last three winners of UConn-Duke won the championship game, '04, '10, and '15.

The pool method here is interesting. Different from the normal 68 game bracket fill. That's hard work.

Some pick "chalk" many did after last years #1s all reached.

Or you can try to find the diamond in the rough. A Purdue over AZ would knock out 75% of any pool. Didn't happen. Needed a decent 2nd half. Same ALA over MICH.

So now all the "chalk" people are genius, and risk takers are the fools.

Example: a pool now comes down to 38 people fighting over 1st round crumbs to pick up a point on SJU over KS or VCU over whom?. Or the points final tiebreaker, as they all have the same bracket.

Makes me angry to be a loser (always). Last year I picked HOU lost in final. Year before Kansas lost in final to VILL. Won nothing. CHALK dude wins. As always, a loser like Larsky I suppose. I lost points on the DUKE buzzer beater and don't even like to pick WOKE DUKE with past REF favortism late in games. Mercy!

Worst pick of all? I had St. MARYS winning a game lol! I had SC beating KEN. Went to OT on KEN half court bank shot at buzzer. Gee, I'm so stupid.

UConn had no business winning that game, but that's all part of the "madness". Looks to me like you could still win or tie me. Which begs the question if you and I tie, is there a tie breaker?

Oh? I though I was out. 6 points back? and ILL win would be 4 points?

Tiebreaker at some company pools is final total score.

Even lob it high in the air downcourt. Easy to say now.

15th post
Too many are saying UCONN DUKE game was greatest of all- time. Huh?

It was a 19 point blowout. Boring, until the 2nd half "comeback".

Greatest ending of all time? Perhaps. As it appeared "over" several times, but was not.

The SHOT was made greater than any other by the fact it was NOT even UCONNs' ball. They had to take it back, pass it twice, watch the clock AND make the longest 3pt shot to win any TMT game since the 3pt shot added in (1975?) IMVHO.

Butler clanked one nearly in but in-out over ten yers ago from farther. The Latener shot was DUKE ball to pass in, and unguarded on the endline.

AND add in the fact DUKE choked to allow the loss? Even better say the many giddy drooling delirious over that bonus.

It was not a great game at all. It was a second half collapse by a superior Duke team that opened the door for UConn to make a miracle shot at the buzzer.

//Off topic but they gave Clyde Drexler 4 1st half fouls. Always Tarnishing things I know of and thought legit and impressive. Sorry Jimmy V. Yes you were great but? What if? And it was an air-ball put back.

I also heard this was the last time ever they announced on TV wher the refs were from and named them

Yes, the 1983 NCAA men's basketball championship game between Houston and NC State was officiated by a crew of three officials from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).
