Way too many for volunteer mods...of which there are not enough.

So...since I'm sitting here doing nothing as I wait for paint to dry on the rocks I plan to paint..I thought I would offer some suggestions.

Don't get rid of..just combine with other forums.

2) World News/Discussion: Australia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Israel, Palestine, Latin America, Middle East General, Europe, Asia, Africa, Canada.

3) Debate: Debate now, Clean Debate Zone, Bull Ring.

4) Entertainment: Writing, tv, reviews, humor, gardening, music, xbox games, photography, sports, travel, pets, hobbies, garage.

5) Spiritual/Religions: philosophy, history & Lifestyle.

6) General Discussion: Food and wine, USMB Lounge, Parannormal, conspiracy theories, stock market, law and justice, us constitution, education, military, race relations, podcast pit.

I was hoping they would start a board for topics just on Guam.

There was a thread in Announcements 2 weeks asking for suggestions because mod staff already KNOWS this.. But a lot of folks would scream at us if we simply deleted or OVERMERGED forums. DTMB is leading the charge on revising this. Probably would end up with a lot of "closed and archived" subforums under one heading..

So I'm late to the party? Not the DTMB will listen to anything I have to suggest anyway (he doesn't like me much), but...there it is. My 2 cents. Take what you like, leave what you don't.
Let them scream. Nothing is GONE. Its just combined into less forums. 62 forums are ludicrous. Cut it down to like 15, dump what is not used much. Nobody is going to leave. They already know which ones they will frequent...of just hit New Topic and Active Topics like I do.

My favorite one is Wikileaks.

News and Breaking News. Or Conspiracy. It can go in any of those as subforums? As I said...none would be gone except those not used often. USMB Lounge has subforums. No reason why others can't be the same. Cleans up the main page when noobs come. Once they click that forum, they see all the subforums.

And MORE MODS to handle all the damn forums and subforums. Not mods for the whole board..just for each main forum maybe. Cuts down on their time. They DO volunteer, so why make them work so hard?

There is no sane reason for Iran, Iraq, Canada, Europe, Afghanistan, Israel, Middle East, Yadda Yadda to have separate forums when they consisit of the whole world spread all out. Stick them in one forum. Cats can then be like hamsters and take whatever tube they want to get to the destination they wish to be in. Right?

Most threads have in the TITLE what the thread is about. No reason why that can't continue, which means the subforum in question is the one they wanted. I think. Makes sense to me but I'm just a peon, lol.

Bringing GROUPS back would be a big relief to staff too IF handled right. Whomever forms the group is the moderator of that group. If it turns into the FZ, thats on the group owner. If its dolls and someone starts in about Trump voodoo dolls to poke pins in, that group owner has the ability to ban that person from that group only...not the whole board of USMB and/or delete the person, and/or have their own policies of 1 warning, then a ban, etc. Mini forums within the main body of USMB. Kinda like the podcasts. USMB has nothing to do with the podcasts...they just allow it to be hosted here as a link. No powers on what is said in that podcast.

Bringing back Groups would be a big load off the main board and all the crying and whining and reporting, etc. In the group, they can only complain TO the owner of the group. Its that persons problem..not the staff of USMB. Then again, USMB must have policies of what groups CAN form. Like, no Black Power or White Supremacy or PORN and such things. And staff has the overall power to lamblast the whole group if the owner doesn't control the group within the boundaries of USMBs rules.

Anyway...just tossing ideas out there. I had a board once upon a time. Had about 500 members. Doesn't sound like a lot, but 500 people on one board IS a chore. I had 2 helpers. And yes, I paid them. Not alot, but I refused to have them work for free and it WAS WORK. I kept the board simple and easy to navigate. Politics were ALL politics, including most breaking news or regular news; a hobby section for cars, guns, art, writing, etc. Had a joke forum for humor. Religion forum for ALL religions. In general, if I remember correctly, I had about 15 forums total. Even had one similar to the FZ where they could bitch each other out or complain about my management. So I was drawing on my own experience when I started this thread...to assist if I could.

I'll shut up now. Said my piece, so to speak.

Completely agree. We've got an "Asia" forum, which includes Iraq, Iran and Afghanisgtan. Israel is clearly part of "Middle East". I would retain Canada as it's more active and more important to its neighbor, eh? I laid all this down in the original topic-streamlining thread.

I still say the phrase "Breaking News" is redundant. If it's news, it's breaking. If it's not breaking, it ain't news. Distinction without difference. Besides which, stories in BN sit there and age, so what was once 'breaking' is now 'nostalgia'.
