Policy Discussion: Understanding That Despite its name, DOGE is not a Cabinet-level department of the United States government.
Despite its name, DOGE is not a Cabinet-level department of the United States government.

I wonder how many people have come across something like this:

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), officially the U.S. DOGE Service Temporary Organization, is a temporary organization under the United States DOGE Service, formerly known as the United States Digital Service. Despite its name, DOGE is not a Cabinet-level department of the United States government. [link on a sentence above]

Why is this DOGE not a government department like others with the 'term' department in their titles and names? Maybe this has been discussed, debated, or explained. Is this about not being held accountable? If the DOGE is to be held accountable, who or what would it be held accountable to? And a side note, people had to be aware of the acronym "Doge" being a reminder of dodging, which involves quick side steps, jumps, dips, or dives to avoid something.

Do people actually know what the mission of the DOGE is?
First there is this:

What we know about Musk's cost-cutting mission

Elon Musk, who Trump has asked to head the Department of Government Efficiency, is leading the effort to seize access to the federal payment system, dismantle an aid agency and offer millions of federal workers an ultimatum - quit or face being fired.

Known as “Doge” - seemingly a winking reference to Musk’s cryptocurrency of choice, dogecoin - the cost-cutting initiative was first announced by Trump after his victory in November.

Trump this week suggested that little in the federal government was out of bounds for Doge.

"Everything's fertile," he said at a White House press conference when asked about the scope of the new body.

And he hinted at what might be Doge's next targets: the departments of defence and education.

"He [Musk] will be looking at education pretty quickly and he will be looking at military, too," the president said
.

Will there be a definitive ruling from the courts?

DOGE is making major changes to the federal government. Is it legal?

What is DOGE, exactly?

Trump didn't create a new Cabinet-level department with DOGE, but rather renamed the previously existing United States Digital Service, which was created under former President Barack Obama.

That office launched in 2014 to improve the federal government's digital capabilities following the rocky rollout of the HealthCare.gov website
.

Trump's order also moves the entity from the Office of Management and Budget to the Executive Office of the President, and directs it to modernize technology and software across the federal government.

Musk is in charge of the unit, and NPR has reported that several young engineers from Silicon Valley have joined his team.
Is it legal?

Some Democrats have condemned the wide latitude and access given to DOGE. On Monday, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said that "before our very eyes, an unelected shadow government is conducting a hostile takeover of the federal government."
President Trump speaks to journalists as he signs an executive order regarding Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), in the Oval Office of the White House on Jan. 20.

DOGE was the subject of a lawsuit filed on the day it was created by a group of organizations questioning the legality of the new entity, including the consumer advocacy group Public Citizen, the State Democracy Defenders Fund and the American Federation of Government Employees, a union representing around 800,000 government workers.

The plaintiffs argue that DOGE is a kind of advisory committee that should be subject to certain federal rules, including transparency requirements.

According to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, Musk is what's known as a "special government employee," a temporary appointment that allows him to work for 130 days per year. That means he's subject to different ethics and disclosure rules than regular federal employees.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request seeking more information about DOGE

So what??? the courts can't stop DOGE... they can tap the breaks but they do not have the power to keep a president from investigating waste and fraud... judge shopping won't help dems... everyday that goes by their poll numbers drop because the people support Musk and DOGE....

All they are doing is making recommendations and you super weird moonbats still freak the fuck out about it
You people are only worth a good laugh every now and then. Besides that? Absolutely worthless.

So what??? the courts can't stop DOGE... they can tap the breaks but they do not have the power to keep a president from investigating waste and fraud...

Nobody is against investigating waste and fraud in our government. What many, I'd suggest a majority of Americans are against is a one-sided, partisan, and ideological attack on government, while locking out Democrats and keeping oversight at bay and ignoring any efforts to be transparent.

All they are doing is making recommendations...
Getting a look at the personal data of all Americans .. they being unelected and sans any background checks on individuals with ties to billionaires who would use our data in AI programs for their own personal benefit?

You people-of-the-cult will rue this day, more than people do now. Courts are trying to keep outsiders with no accountability from gaining access to our personal information

It's as if we're living in a Police State and you people are willing to give up freedoms and liberties for some cheap trolling political points

Oversight and IG's

The GOP Congress is so cowed by Trump (such small majorities in both houses Trump could harm them easily.. party over nation good).

So what??? the courts can't stop DOGE...
Wrong.
It is the job of the judicial branch of government to serve as a coequal check and balance on the other two branches.
You might want to pick up a 6th grade civics textbook when you get a chance.
they can tap the breaks but they do not have the power to keep a president from investigating waste and fraud...

And a convicted felon who has had six bankruptcies INCLUDING a bankrupt fricking casino has ZERO business pretending like he's investigating any type of fraud.
He's the king of fraud!

Voters were told to take Trump seriously, but not literally. So asking them things can get pretty convoluted.

All of that is wrong... the courts can not block the president from looking at what the government is spending tax money on... they can not stop him from uncovering fraud and waste unless they want to go to jail for aiding the fraud and corruption... that is why all these judges did was pause the search... and of course like Biden always did Trump is ignoring the rulings... March onward Musk and bring big balls with you...

Wrong lots of people are against it... Jesus wake up... its your money too and that is why 70% of Americans are fine with DOGE... the people want this uncovered... 300 million to a Gaza cement company so Hamas could build their tunnels... are you ok with that?...

All of that is wrong... the courts can not block the president from looking at what the government is spending tax money on..
You can reframe it all you want, but your statement isn't connected to reality

No court is saying or would try and block any president from looking at what the government is spending tax money on. That is just nonsense to suggest

The rest of your post is just weirdo stuff
