Per chatgpt. If anyone disagrees or has specific details from a source please provide. There is clearly a path being pursued by Iran and their Big Brother in China to try and create another problem for the world, similar to N Korea.

The Weapons-Grade Threshold

  • 90% Enrichment: This is the internationally recognized threshold for weapons-grade material. While a functional nuclear device could theoretically be built with less (e.g., 60-80%), it would require significantly more material and result in a much larger, less reliable weapon.
  • The 60% Mark: Enrichment to 60% is a major proliferation concern. It is far beyond what is required for any civil, commercial, or medical application. It serves no peaceful purpose other than potentially acting as a "stepping stone" to 90% enrichment, as the infrastructure is already in place to finalize the process quickly.

Summary of Risks

If a nation or entity achieves 60% enrichment, it indicates a highly advanced nuclear program capable of weaponization. Because the difficulty of enrichment follows an exponential curve regarding the "Separative Work Units" (SWU), the leap from 60% to 90% is significantly easier than the leap from 0.7% to 60%. Consequently, 60% is often viewed by the IAEA and global powers as a de facto indicator of a threshold state moving toward nuclear armament.

The risk is religious fanatics who murdered 40000 of their own people and have plans to take over the ME should never have weapons of mass destruction.
Democrats are OK with them having nukes. Imagine that. They turn violent criminals loose so no surprise

I am wondering if it was even enriched by Iran or if someone helped them out...

Frightening times.

I have listened to all the far-left and European media, none have made any legitimate argument about Irans motives or their own authoritarian system.

Some people believe diplomacy and guardrail rules work. China has shown that rules do not mean anything so why would anyone be fooled the their vassal states would be any different? They enjoy gaslighting the world though.

This is like North Korea all over again. We gave Iran that research reactor, and we provided them the HEU to fuel it. Granted, it was an old heavy water reactor, much like North Korea's. And yes, Argentina stepped in and converted that reactor to use LEU fuel. At one time, Russia and France were supplying that fuel. Trump put a stop to it, what choice did Iran have? Yes, now they are creating HEU to fuel that reactor.

Just like North Korea. North Korea shut down their heavy water reactor under the agreement negotiated by Carter for Clinton. Our part was to provide them with crude oil to fuel power plants to replace the output of that reactor. Bush and Republicans refused, withdrew from the deal, and North Korea fired that bad boy back up resulting in Plutonium production as a byproduct.

Yes, the IAEA is opposed to using HEU in research reactors, but, converting those old reactors to use LEU is not an easy process. And using HEU can provide significant advantages. That needs to be recognized, Iran has a right to the nuclear fuel cycle, unlike, say, Israel, who is not a party to the NPT.
