Nah, the causality is wrong. Honeybees did fine in N. America from their importation by Europeans in the early 1600s. If the mites came with them, the honeybees would never have established themselves in the New World.

The suggested problem also fails to address the widespread honeybee colony collapses in Europe. If the mite comes from Europe, as US honeybees did originally, the bees & mites should have come to some kind of symbiosis by now - all these centuries after honeybees were introduced into the New World.

Problem in our society is that we are faced with so many HYSTERICAL silly warnings, that we don't take ANY of them seriously..
