Maybe they feel that if they were to toss Biden to the curb then they would be expected to support Kamala Harris, who does even worse in the polling than Biden does. Can't toss Harris to the curb because then they might lose more black votes than they are already losing. So, they are being forced to put their eggs in the Biden basket with her as VP because supporting another white person would be a huge slap in the face to blacks.
