2025 Deficit comes in at 1.97 Trillion. This Is Way Out of Hand

The annual deficit is 2 trillion. Tariffs are bringing in1 trillion a year. Can you do simple math
Monies collected from tariffs would be in the revenue column when this calculation was done wouldn't they?

You might get 2-3.

Massie for sure

Rand Paul would probably vote for both.

You might get a few others since they would know it wouldnt pass. Politicians do that all the time. Vote for or against something they know will go the other way so they can say put the blame for it on someone else.
Good point.

Who cares they how long it takes they pay off the deficit at no cost to America. Some estimates are higher

This is no where near a trillion dollars.

I guess I'm not understanding something: if the annualized revenue increase is $350 billion or so, that doesn't wipe out nearly $2 trillion in annual deficits. Are we not approx $1.6 trillion in the hole after the revenue increase for this year? What are we going to do about that $1.6 trillion deficit that is unaccounted for?

I also do not believe our economy can absorb higher tariffs without a subsequent consequence in reduced economic growth. Yeah, we haven't seen it yet, but historically higher tariffs will hurt that way. So there IS a cost to American businesses and consumers cuz they gotta pay more for the same thing and that means a lower standard of living. Not to mention higher inflation.

He also hasn't shown any evidence that the tariffs aren't already baked into that 2 trillion-dollar number. Is all that money sitting in a warehouse somewhere waiting to be counted at the end of the year and be applied to the balance sheet? I kind of doubt that's how it's working.

It's always amazing how quickly everyone switches their stance on the deficit issue depending on who's doing the spending.

Good question: do we know whether or not the tariff revenue increase was included in the FY 2025 deficit number? Even if it isn't, $1.6 trillion deficits are still unaccounted for.

SS barely pays a pittance now. And I don't think the rich are going to be keen on paying social security if they are going to only get a pittance.
**** them. The LAW says what they pay to make SS recipients whole.
Same problem. Why would the rich pay more for benefits they won't use. You think rich people are going to wait in a medicare clinic?
Medicare is a mandatory deduction, period.
Actually, most Medicaid Spending is on old, middle-class white people living in Nursing Homes.
So? Find funding or cut it. Its charity. Let the states pay for it.
We should be glad to be getting 4%, all things considered.
Nope. Other countries are at 2%, that's where we should be. Saves $600b a year.
Sure you can. Here's an easy one. You only get Veterans' benefits if you were shot at by a testy foreigner. If you just served in the peacetime military (like I did), no Soup for You!
whatever can save $$$
Trump just cut taxes on the Top, get real.
No he did not. Trump cut taxes for SS, OT and tips. Trump extended the tax rates currently being used. The top rate need to be 40%
Any ******* idiot who thinks tariffs are going to raise 500B a year needs to have his head examined.
Bessent said so, take it up with him.

Agreed. It's never been a revenue problem. The US generates as much tax revenue as China, UK, France and Italy combined. US is 1 and those are the next 4 on the list of countries generating the most tax revenue on the planet. That we have a 2 trillion dollar deficit is insane. That's more than China generates per year in taxes.

I don't take offense at your accusations.

It's a tough place to be in and I get why the clown show in D.C. won't address it.

But it needs to be addressed. Most think tanks (like CATO) say that we have about 10 to 15 years to bring this under control or else it's lights out. And the longer we wait, the more painful it will be all around.

I don't want people on S.S. to lose anything. When my time comes, I want what I paid in. And those who did their part need to be guaranteed what they deserve. But in six or seven years, they are going to take a 25 to 30% cut in benefits if we don't do something now. That or we start funding from the general which is only goint to send the deficit into orbit and that will only last so long.

It's like a tooth that started talking to you a year ago. If it had been treated then.....small repair. NOW.....surgery.
Call me selfish if you will, but in 10 to 15 years, most of the people you know and yourself may all be dead.

At that rate, it will take over 150 years to pay off the national debt. You do know what a decade is, don't you?

Your own source refuted your claim! Can you explain for us the psychology of proving yourself wrong?

Youre confusing the annual deficit with the national debt. The deficit is 2 trillion. Whose dumb now
