A new report shows that Democrat policies in cities and counties are responsible for risingcrime rates in “their otherwise red states.”The Heritage Foundation today released a 19-page report titled “The Blue City MurderProblem” that includes analysis on crime data and explores who is responsible for risingcrime throughout the U.S. (The Daily Signal is Heritage’s multimedia news organization.)“Those on the Left know that their soft-on-crime policies have wreaked havoc in the citieswhere they have implemented those policies,” authors Charles Stimson, Zack Smith, andKevin D. Dayaratna, who are scholars in the Edwin Meese III Center for Judicial and LegalStudies at The Heritage Foundation, wrote in the report. The authors continued:It is not hard to understand why ‘reforms’ such as ending cash bail, defunding the police, refusing to prosecute entire categories of crimes, letting thousands of convicted felons out ofprison early, significantly cutting the prison population, and other ‘progressive’ ideas have ledto massive spikes in crime—particularly violent crime, including murder—in the communitieswhere those on the Left have implemented them.2/3As of June 2022, the top three cities with the highest homicide rates include Chicago, with304 homicides; Philadelphia, with 240 homicides; and New York, with 197 homicides, thereport said. The report also highlighted that 27 of the top 30 cities with the highest murder rates as ofJune 2022 were run by Democratic mayors, except for Lexington, Kentucky, andJacksonville, Florida, which are run by Republican mayors, and Las Vegas, which has anindependent mayor. The Blue City Murder ProblemDownloadMore specifically, 14 of the 30 cities with the highest murder rates have “[George] Sorosbacked or Soros-inspired rogue prosecutors,” the report said. Some of the prosecutors include:New Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason WilliamsMilwaukee County District Attorney John T. ChisholmBaltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn MosbySt. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim GardnerPhiladelphia District Attorney Larry KrasnerCook County, Illinois, State’s Attorney Kim Foxx“There were 2,554 homicides in those 30 cities through June 2022. In the 14 cities withSoros-backed rogue prosecutors, there were 1,752 homicides, representing 68% of homicidesin the 30 top homicide cities in the United States,” the report said.

Correspondingly many of America's most iconic Democratic states actually saw their population decline, despite a national rise of 0.4 percent over the period. California shrunk by 0.3 percent, New York by 0.9 percent, Illinois by 0.8 percent and Oregon by 0.4 percent. Within California the difference was even more pronounced, with the ultra-progressive San Francisco and Lassen counties seeing their populations fall by 7.1 percent and 7.5 percent respectively between April 2020 and July 2022.
