Yup. The Democrats don't want Sanders as their standard bearer any more than the Republicans want Trump or Cruz as their standard bearer.

You do realize by now, surely, that Republicans and Democrats are not some great huge monolithic entity with one giant will of 100% agreement, right?

The Republicans never have been. I think the Democrats are far less diverse in their point of view and are more likely to recite the party line more obediently, but for sure all Democrats aren't in lockstep on everything. But the Democrats are all mostly falling in line behind Hillary. Bernie's supporters are mostly people getting involved in politics for the first time. The Democrats risk much less damage to their party when they dump him.

But we Republicans don't take marching orders from anybody. We just tend to be naïve about how much clout the party bosses hold in the process.

When the RNC picked McCain and pulled some shenanigans to make sure he got the requisite number of delegates, that should have clued us in. We all know how well that turned out. I don't know how much manipulation was involved in Romney's nomination in 2012--it was much less obvious in that election--but again they picked the establishment guy, the one who toed the party line, and again that person failed to generate sufficient confidence and enthusiasm to win.

The RNC wouldn't be in the mess that it finds itself if they had just been up front that they would make the final selection in the first place and we voters wouldn't have all that much say about it. And that would have made their Trump/Cruz problem much less a holy quagmire in which they are in danger of disenfranchising 50% or more of the voters no matter what they do.

A whole bunch of Republicans have been rejecting the establishment for some time. This year may be the year the party blows itself up by not understanding that. Of course, we'll probably put Hillary in the White House and could lose the Senate and even the House in the process.
