Update - so the road in question runs right along the reservoir's edge, looks like it's at about 20-50' above the current level (judging from google map that says it was taken 2017) IDK though the reports on the reservoir are that it's pretty shallow over all, but that it's at 100% capacity. Guess we'll see what the engineers say, I'll try to keep tabs on the story.

The sewer pipes in the city are clay and over 100 years old. When the pipes were laid they were not joined. They were just put together. It's a wonder they lasted. At the joins where there is slippage, water erodes the soil until it is just worn away. When we had this storm, water went into the sewer from the street drains and caused the sinkhole.

There is a schedule to replace the clay pipes. It will take 400 years to have all the pipes replaced. If the city can afford it.
