1975 Ruger Mini-14

You're not hunting anything, except your next meal.
I deer hunt. I didn't get one last year. The year before that I got a doe. The year before that I got a 10 point. That's the biggest buck I ever shot and the record on our hunting property. 60 acres. My brother bought it for $100K during the Bush Great Recession then he built what seems to be a $1million dollar home on it. Then he built a garage that looks like a barn. Like this only with 2 doors. Custom built house. If the house by itself isn't worth $1 million, with the garage it sure is. I keep telling him it's a $2 million dollar property now but he doesn't think so. I do.

So yes this liberal does hunt. But I'm not a good shot which is typical of us

To me, every gun has a unique purpose. I wouldn't buy 2 of the same kind of gun. So I have a 22 long rifle, a 22 handgun, a 45 handgun, a deer hunting 450 bushmaster, a 410 shotgun for birds and skeet shooting, a bb gun, muzzle loader, crossbow.

What is this gun for? Doesn't seem like it holds a lot of rounds is it a good deer gun? My 450 bushmaster mag only holds 3 bullets but boy are they big bullets. Take down a bear, deer, elk.
The Mini-14 takes up to a 30 round mag in .223. I don’t know about the 7.62x39 chambering.

I’m lookin at a 1989 Mini 30 right now as another platform to delve into ( which means I will wind up with 2-4 variants in the following months …

I never messed with a Mini-30 so I really don't know much about them other than they take another proprietary mag that I don't wish to get into.

I've built up quite the supply of Ruger factory mags for the Mini-14 over the years.

I did find one aftermarket 10-round mag that works really well in the Mini-14 made by United Defense but I don't mess with other aftermarket mags.

So does an AK or any number of 7.62 X 39 platforms. That's why I never have bothered with a Mini-30.
I have numerous AK / AKM and SKS variants ( so I have ammo ) which is why I may delve into Mini 30 ( but not if price is 750.00+ ) if I can get my first one for 650.00-750.00 I’ll get into them

Ammo is not the problem, the proprietary mags are. 20-round Ruger factory mags are around $33.00 before shipping. Not a bank breaker by any means but it's just something I'd rather not mess with.

I only need 10 mags per weapon ( at peak ) and feel comfortable with 4 to start a new platform . Obviously with 50+ AR pattern weapons in 5 calibers I can’t live up to the 10 mag per credo but I have 10-20 years of life left to try

LOL....I learned my lesson with an old Armalite AR-180....I had to alter AR mags for that one.

The good thing was AR P-Mags really worked well for the conversion and they can still be used for an AR.

A Sterling ( British) variant of those is on my Radar ( To go with my 61 BSA L1A1 SLR )
