I was guarding convicts on road gangs when I was 19, had my own health insurance, and had started the process of having my first home built.

Sigh, the country is not like it once was so I guess I should make peace with that.

Not like is once was and the sad part of it, it's will never be like it was. The days of buying minty $15 Mauser 98k rifles mail order with $4 USPS shipping to the the door are not coming back. The old folks and their great American values have all long since passed away, and everything seems to be continually sliding into oblivion.

Actually, for a city it’s size, New York is one of the safest in the world. Thanks largely to the efforts of Mayor Giuliani in the late 90s.

they just don't want to prosecute anyone. It feels like people with the intellect of children with no life experience have taken over everything. This story is one of the saddest I have seen recently. I cant comprehend how the shooter in this instance after getting his money can turn around and shoot a little girl in the stomach. If that isn't a HATE crime, I don't know what is.If caught, this person needs to be made an example of.
Mayors in these cities need to get tough and get tough quick, and they need to telegraph their intentions to criminals loud and clear so there is no mistake of the consequences should they hurt someone. As it is, the complete opposite is taking place.

probably you know, like many kids in those areas, if they are not keeping busy with work or school, they get caught up in gangs. Even girls. that probably would have been a real fear for the mother.

According to the DA's new position paper, they won't seek any sentence more than 20 years minimum.
