Gay, straight, bi are just words. Not binding realities. What word you choose to use is usually for other people's benefit in relating to you. You can change your behaviour instantly or as your situation changes as being in prison cut off from your preferred partner and 'making due' with who's at hand.

In ancient times no one referred to one another by who they had sex with. Especially in ancient Greece and Rome where a manly man could have sex with anyone without it threatening his status or perception as manly. It actually works this way today in Brazil where "straight" men may opt to have sex with self-identified gay men. But so long as the one who identifies as straight is the dominant participant he's still straight as far as they're concerned. It's only the submissive partner who's regarded as gay.
