10.9 million people would lose health insurance under Trump's tax cut bill, CBO projects

At the turn of the millennium , elderly and disabled individuals could get medicaid as well as dames who were knocked up or dames with children who were very poor.

But due to Obama's massive expansion of medicaid, the income limits were raised as well as allowing able bodied adults without dependents to get on the program.

The result was a massive increase

“House Republicans’ tax bill would lead to nearly 11 million people losing health insurance, providing a key source of savings to help finance President Trump’s tax cuts, according to projections that nonpartisan congressional scorekeepers published Wednesday.

Another 5.1 million people would become uninsured from a combination of expiring Affordable Care Act subsidies and new ACA rules that Trump’s health department proposed, the Congressional Budget Office said. Those coverage losses are separate from the CBO’s official score of the tax bill.

Altogether, 16 million people could become uninsured over a decade, the same number who were at risk of losing their insurance when Republicans attempted to repeal the Affordable Care Act in 2017, CBO said.

The CBO projections give Democrats ammunition to attack Republicans for taking insurance from low-income voters to pay for tax cuts that disproportionately benefit the rich. Most Republicans say the bill only takes insurance from those without jobs who are able to work and that pregnant women, children, people with disabilities, and frail older adults will not be affected.”

“Most Republicans say the bill only takes insurance from those without jobs who are able to work and that pregnant women, children, people with disabilities, and frail older adults will not be affected.”

This is a lie.

For example, that an adult without children of his own in the home can work doesn’t mean he can afford health insurance; low-income working adults will lose Medicaid, and not all employers provide health insurance to employees.

‘Frail older adults’ will also lose Medicaid if they’re under 65 and not established disabled by Social Security. Adults with no children of their own in the home who are incapacitated with pending Social Security disability claims can wait years before approval.

Incapacitated adults who are unable to work will lose access to Medicaid.

Republicans are as dishonest as they are incapable of sound, responsible governance.
Oh dear, let’s understand your primary diapered outrage porn is that your precious illegals will be prevented from stealing taxpayer dollars.

Who benefits the most from tax cuts.

The wealth obvioiusly

Lower income will benefit but it will be minimal. It will be better than nothing.

But the status quo stays the same

The rich get richer, middle class gets some gains, and the poor remain poor.

Tax policy is not even a top 10 reason why many poor remain poor.

About 17 Million More People Could be Uninsured due to the Big Beautiful Bill and other Policy Changes

The reconciliation package currently making its way through Congress would make significant cuts to federal funding for Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act. According to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), an additional 11.8 million people could be uninsured in 2034 if the version introduced by the Senate is passed. (This is a fast-moving piece of legislation and additional changes could be made, though the reconciliation bill is likely to be put up for a vote before another CBO score can be completed).

The bill’s cuts to Medicaid and the ACA come at the same time other changes are being made to the Affordable Care Act. The Trump administration recently finalized a rule that would result in more people becoming uninsured. And later this year, enhanced premium tax credits are set to expire, leaving even more people uninsured. The CBO previously estimated that these two changes would result in another 5.1 million more people being uninsured on top of the drops in health coverage from the Big Beautiful Bill.

This is what Trump and the extreme right are saying:

Republicans are advocating for work requirements for Medicaid recipients, arguing that some individuals on the program could be working but are not, and that this policy encourages personal responsibility and reduces government spending. They believe that requiring able-bodied adults to work or participate in work-related activities, such as job training or community service, will incentivize more people to enter the workforce and reduce the number of people relying on Medicaid.

Here are the real facts:

Many people working full-time jobs still struggle financially and need help to survive, according to recent reports.
  • Nearly 40 million families, or 29% of the population, are considered "ALICE" (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed), meaning they earn above the poverty line but still struggle to afford basic necessities.
  • 73% of workers report struggling to afford anything beyond basic expenses, essentially living paycheck to paycheck.
  • 40% of workers have even missed work because of financial stress.
This highlights a significant gap between the ability of many full-time jobs to provide a living wage and the increasing cost of living, leaving many individuals and families in precarious financial situations.

This fact goes to prove that Medicaid does more good than not, and that hurting these WORKING families (to get rid of the ones that do nothing and scam Medicaid) will do more damage to our nation than help it. When 73% of WORKING Americans struggle, why would a president want to cause them more pain in order to force those that are not working, to find a job?

So genius, tell us why we had to have the entire society saddled with that ACA boondoggle, if there is no help for citizens that need help with their medical?

So, you are saying that we are a medically sick nation. What nation is as sick as ours as we are also a first world one. People in poorer nations with some diseases from it and having malnutrition is understandable.

Able bodied citizens and ILLEGAL aliens need to worry. :rolleyes-41:
No matter the cost to other American families that do what they are supposed to do? No one seems to be helping them!

The extreme right seems to be more interested in punishing do-nothings than help working families live a better life.

Since when has a party been interested in doing more harm than good (punishing rather than helping)? Is that a way to move a country forward?

Wait a sec....Wasn't Ovomitcare supposed to be the be-all-end-all fix for this?

You mean this was bad?

AI Overview

Approximately 44 million Americans were enrolled in health coverage through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in 2024 through the ACA marketplaces and the Medicaid expansion, according to a KFF analysis. This represents about one in six people under the age of 65. Over the past decade, nearly 50 million Americans have had coverage at some point through the ACA marketplaces.

Oh, and when you say "the entire society saddled with ACA", do you mean that if you had your own medical coverage, you had to get rid of it and get ACA?

WTH are you even muttering???

Those that don't fit in the "able bodied citizens" and the "ILLEGAL aliens" need not worry.
The rest of your post is nothing more than drivel.

The trouble with capitalism with no social responsibility to the people
Yup, it might indeed be an awful system to keep everyone acting ethically, but as most intelligent folks know, trusting politicians and bureaucrats that love them some socialism, is always, and without any exception, more corrupt with far less social responsibility built into it . . .

Your post is about the struggle of people who are working. If they are working at least 20 hours per week, and are not illegal aliens, they will continue to get Medicaid.

It will continue to do the good, but there will be less of the "not."

Fewer illegals fraudulently robbing the funds needed by the Americans you mention, and fewer Americans feeling trapped in unemployment because they have forgotten how to seek and keep a job.
