But it "forbids" not to defend all and every life in general with all possible methods - but also with sense of proportion. No, they aren't allies of Russia. They are parts of the Ukraine trying to breakaway. You example is like Maine and Montana trying to break away from the US and you calling them allies of Canada.

You see - every state is sovereign in choosing their policy and recognition of other states. The USA recognized Kosovo, Turkey recognized the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Republic of Korea don't recognize existence of Democratic Peoples Rupublic of Korea, etc...
The USA may recognize or not recognize the Republic of China (Taiwan) as an independent state. It's a sovereign right of the US. But, of course, such recognition may be recognized by other states (first of all by People's Republic of China, of course) as act of aggression or even declaration of war.

And yes, in the case of balkanization of the USA (which is quite possible with the current Dem's course) such Canadian step will be recognized in Washington as an act of aggression, but in Augusta and Helena - as an act of support and defense. People of Montana and Maine will be happy as people of Donbass, Kosovo, Northern Cyprus, Abkhazia were.
