Yet another reason I like Tina Fey

I disagree Elvis. I reckon she was never in the running. I'd go as far to say she cost McCain the election...

It had a lot more to do with the economic meltdown.
Edit: There's no way he was going to win with anyone after the meltdown the previous month.
Aside from that, had she not resigned as governor, she'd be the frontrunner right now.

Yup.
I think she decided not to run at the same time she resigned as governor.

It's not being educated that some on the right mock as being elitist....it's just those on the left who have a view that only those who have gained their enlightenment from some ivy league institute are truly educated, and have little appreciation for those who value self-education and a desire to always be learning.

i don't know anyone who thinks you're educated only if you're ivy league.

and generally people who are uneducated are simply that... uneducated, notwithstanding some self-educated types.

Who has said they are journos? They are definitely commentators - acerbic, funny and no holds barred, but definitely commentators. One of Fey's, Colbert's or Stewart's sketches has more insight into the inner mechanisms of the US political system, than 100 Anne Coulter appearances on O'Reilly or Hannity or any other right-wing hack programme.

And you think O'Reilly, Hannity or, god forbid, Beck, are journos? Or commentators. You'll probably cough to Beck not being a journo, but please, if you consider any of them commentators, then the three comedians leave them in their wake IMO....

Interesting. Because Fey's wiki page doesn't say jack shit about her being a commentator. Got a link? I've never called Beck a journalist. He's a commentator. But comedy is comedy - it is not commentary.... no matter how desperately you want it to be.

Just because she doesn't say she's commentating doesn't mean she isn't. You think her "I can see Russia from my house" quote when she was playing Palin wasn't saying 'something' about the former governor...

It wasn't a quote, it was a line in a comedy skit. The fact that you do not know the difference is oddly telling. We do not even know who wrote it, My guess is it was not Fey, though I will admit it could have been.

So she wasn't having a dig at Palin...rrriiiigggghhtttt. And the likelihood of her writing it is pretty high. If you can't see the likes of Maher, Colbert and Fey taking the piss out of politicians as commenting, then that is oddly telling...

he actually does know it wasn't a quote because he said that it was commentary. i'd say satire, but that's probably quibbling.

what palin actually said was she had foreign policy credentials because alaska shared a maritime boarder with russia... which is probably even goofier.

what that turned into in terms of comedy was fey (as palin) saying she'd shoo russian airplanes away when they came into alaska's airspace.

and just to make an observation, some of our greatest political commentary has always been satire... whether on SNL or in political cartoons.

Interesting. I always understood that she refers to herself as an actress, comedian, writer and producer. I've never seen her referred to as a political commentator..... seems to me that the left often have difficulty differentiating between humor and reality.

Which might be why they get mocked by the right for holding the likes of Fey, Stewart and Colbert as examples of 'journalists' and 'commentators'.

If they had half a brain, they'd be embarrassed.
I've never understood the left's predilection for letting comedians do their thinking for them.

Something Freudian going on, I think.

I don't know any lefties who let comedians do their thinking for them. I know a lot who find their innuendos and insights funny.

However, I do find it funny how the righties on this board let the likes of Beck, hannity, O'reilly et al do their thinking for them. Tell you what Dave, you search for comedian threads started by lefties (even include this one if you like) that spruik comedians thinking for lefties. I'll do the same with Hannity, Beck and Oreilly threads started by the freaks. I might be some time...
Let me tell you a difference between the right and the left.

The right listens to political commentary that agrees with what they think.

The left listens to political commentary that they agree with.

Understand? Conservatives listen to Rush and Beck because Rush and Beck agree with them.

Leftists listen to Olbermann and Maddow because they agree with Olbermann and Maddow.

The difference is subtle yet vast.

And isn't it great in America we have the CHOICE to listen/watch to whoever we want?

Or the choice NOT to watch.....

People on here parrot what is said on all of these so called 'political' shows, be it the left or the right.

What would be even better is if people could think for themselves, instead of having others think for them.

You know who I miss? Tim Russert. Loved watching him on Sundays.

Where did I say that? I flat out admitted it could be her line, I just see it as unlikely since SNL actually has a team of writers for skits like that. I just pointed out that it is not a quote.

That left a mark. Will dump notice? Probably not.

Didn't even leave a pinprick. I'm surprised you're able to keep up...

...oh, that's right, you're not...

Allie was right, you didn't notice the mark.

That just makes it more visible.

I do not recall what she said exactly, but the truth is that you can actually walk from Alaska to Russia for a good part of the year. Believe it or not, that does give her some foreign policy experience.

I grew up in a city where the mayor would walk across the international border to deal with the mayor of a much larger city in Mexico, and occasionally the governor. Over the years the various mayors of my home town has talked to the president of Mexico more often than they have talked to the president of the United States. Almost all of them have been Democrats, and all of them have more foreign policy experience than Obama had when he ran for president.

I never said it was not satire, or even good commentary, I just pointed out, correctly, that it is not a quote, something which Grump went to the trouble to emphasize. It is not really surprising, that particular skit was so effective that more than half the country actually believes Plain said that.

What on earth is goofy about pointing to the fact that you manage a state that deals closely with Russia? That certainly is indicative of foreign policy experience. And it's certainly more than Obama had.

This is the problem..most lefties have no concept of Alaska...their scorn of Palin stems directly from their own ignorance. They didn't REALIZE that Alaska dealt with Russia, so when she brought it up they naturally assumed it wasn't true, since they didn't know anything about it.

It's a classic representation of the incredible arrogance and elitism of the left....sneer at Sarah because you don't know anything about Alaska, and so of course, there must not be anything to know.

but that wasn't the issue and wasn't what was being made fun of... it was the vapidness of expression and lack of gravitas... which fey captured perfectly.

I grew up in a city where the mayor would walk across the international border to deal with the mayor of a much larger city in Mexico, and occasionally the governor. Over the years the various mayors of my home town has talked to the president of Mexico more often than they have talked to the president of the United States. Almost all of them have been Democrats, and all of them have more foreign policy experience than Obama had when he ran for president.

most people elected president don't have direct foreign policy experience. but a senator generally has more than a governor. in palin's case, she didn't even have a handle on the issues, which i think is more to the point.

I never said it was not satire, or even good commentary, I just pointed out, correctly, that it is not a quote, something which Grump went to the trouble to emphasize. It is not really surprising, that particular skit was so effective that more than half the country actually believes Plain said that.

grump said it was "commentary" and fey taking digs at palin.

the fact that others may believe it is due to a lack of actual knowledge... same as people who say the president is a muslimsocialistkenyan.

and that happens with skits. it's something politicians deal with. palin's people have always had trouble running with the big boys and are very thin skinned and as enamored of their 'victim-hood' as palin is.

Palin has no trouble at all running with the big boys.

Which is why the left hates her.
