WINNING: Harvard Agrees To Return $8.7 BILLION COVID-19 Cash...Princeton Piles On in Shaming Harvard

The money was going to go to needy students.
Way to regurgitate what Harvard and the NY Times told you.

You also told me Harvard was never taking the money and they could not 'give back' something they never had while the story you linked said they were taking the money until they got lit up for planning to do so.

You’re not being honest, and this thread has been rife with lies. I said they never asked for the money and never applied for it. Therefore they never received anything and couldn’t give anything back. That’s all true, whether you like it or not.

They were planning on requesting the money to hand to their needy students. If you accuse them of lying about that, you should prove it or shut up.

Are you happy that needy students are going to get help?

They never applied for the money.
....but they didn't have to. They knew it was coming to them.

They never requested the money.
....but they were planning to, according you you in your post

They never received the money.
...that they had already planned to use.

They couldn't give anything back.
...because they had not physically gotten the money they had already been awarded and planned to spend.

And Harvard did not change their mind and decide NOT to take the money until critics hammered them for being the richest university in the nation, sitting on a $40 billion endowment they could use to 'help needy students' instead of taking tax dollars that was / is needed more by struggling, hard-hit American citizens.

Thanks for clearing that up.

:p

Got it now?

Of course not, the NY Times article states Harvard decided not to accept the money after Trump and other critics pressured them not to.:

"Harvard, which had previously said it would use all of the federal money to support students in need opted not to take it after two days of attacks by an array of critics, including Mr. Trump and several Republican congressmen, who said it was unseemly for the country’s richest university to take taxpayer money during a crisis that has left millions of Americans without jobs."
Ok, one more time, and I'll try to be more specific this time:

dOnald tRump accused them of taking money meant for small businesses from the PPP program.

Here's the hard part, so listen close:

They didn't get any.

Got it now?

Please read the discussion going on between Colon and I - it will help you understand WTF is happening instead of you continuing to wander in and say stupid shit.

According to Colon, Harvard - the richest university in the US - knew it was getting millions of tax dollars in Corona Relief legislation, so they did not have to request the money, although Colon says they planned to. Colon also says Harvard planned to use the $8+ million in tax dollars despite sitting on a $40 Billion in endowment money...until pressured / shamed into declaring they would not spend the money, which they and Coon admit they planned on doing.

If ypou need this explained more simply, ask Colon.

You lie. Harvard NEVER ACCEPTED THE MONEY so how can they return something they never had?

Thank you for showing you have no idea WTF is going on, that you did NOT read the article, that you have not been paying attention to the news, and that you made ZERO effort to find out what this was all about before embarrassing yourself by responding with this proven uneducated opinion.

"Harvard University will return $8.6 million it received from a coronavirus relief package that Congress passed last month after a public dispute with President Donald Trump and his administration."

Straight from fox news!

One thing good that could come from this is maybe people will realize what a waste attending most colleges is. Get a job and take the courses online, save thousands on dorms and pass on all the SJW bullshit going on in those places. You can sign up for classes with decent professors that get paid by the student enrollment. No students no job. Shut off the tax payer funding and let them compete nation wide for students.
colleges do have their place. but i question that role they have today. it does seem more carry over because the last generation did it; not because of a need. the cost of getting that piece of paper is almost out of reach recovery wise to make 4+ years of debt and effort worth it.
Was there this much angst over school debt before Obama turned over the loan program to the federal government?....
Not sure where you are going. Is Obamas action what drove up debt?
When government takes over anything the one sure call is costs will rise....and it has....

'On Tuesday President Trump told reporters he was not happy about Harvard University received a federal coronavirus bailout. President Trump said he was going to ask them to give it back.'

Despite already having a $40 BILLION endowment, Harvard refused...at 1st.

'Today, they reversed their position. They’re giving back the money...and Princeton shamed Harvard, elegantly:'

Way to go, President Trump...and nice 'shot' Princeton! :p

"Way to go, President Trump.."

WTF???????????
Shouldn't you be asking how this was able to happen under his administration in the fucking first place??????
Goddamn, Trump cultists are so fucking stupid.

They didn’t. The story is fake news.

LINK?

Oh, don't bother - you don't even try to support your uneducated, TDS-suffering opinions with links / facts.

"Harvard University will return $8.6 million it received from a coronavirus relief package that Congress passed last month after a public dispute with President Donald Trump and his administration."
as much as he and i don't get along - i have to put that away when dealing with simple facts. i asked for a link to what he was referencing so we can speak from the same information and he provided one.

this was in that article:

"Harvard University announced Wednesday that it would not accept $8.6 million in taxpayer money that the university was set to receive as part of an emergency relief package for higher education, whose losses have been mounting during the coronavirus pandemic. "

so they are set to receive money from a relief package FOR HIGHER EDUCATION. so this had nothing to do with the small business loan program that went together in a few days then does it?

so - colfax is correct based on the article he provided. it's an education relief fund, not small business and looks to be something different that is given, not requested.

sounds more like they are saying "no we won't take what you were going to give us" NOT "we will give back what we asked for because we didn't deserve it"

facts are facts and if i say put emotions down and read the facts, that includes me. i need to go read up on this more w/o the cheerleaders bouncing around.

That is not what the thread started out about. That is not what tRump and his mindless followers accused Harvard of.

Admit the initial accusations were a lie.

Yes, I realize that Harvard and virtually every other college in the country was automatically given aid according to some formula. Arizona State got 6 or 7 times what Harvard did.

Are you upset about that?

No, of course you aren't. tRump didn't tell.you to be.

not MILLION, easy; BILLION.

and it appears to be a grant package for higher learning in general, not something harvard dove into and tried to grab like a SOONER in oklahoma as being presented.

we have enough bullshit for the sake of emotional bullshit going around.

in all fairness are you not regurgitating what your sources told you? again i don't know. i need to go read several sources and answer questions like the source of the money; the history behind this source, historical grants and uses, and how they were set to get it this time around.

once i understand shit like that, then i can know if they did something wrong or not. i'm not about to start screaming at THE MAN just because someone told me to. either side.

this article is doing a great job of keeping to facts, not assigning blame.

"Way to go, President Trump"? This should not have happened in the first place and I can't believe that Trump didn't know that large businesses would stick their hands in the till. Maybe he knew and succumbed to the backlash, eh?

Straight from fox news!

AGAIN, what is it you THINK you just proved? From your own link:

"At least three major universities said they wouldn’t accept funds allocated to them under the coronavirus stimulus package after President Trump began pressuring Harvard University over the money."

Harvard is one of those schools.

Colon already provided a NY Times link / article that made it clear Harvard already knew that it was going to get MILLIONS in tax dollar 'Corona Virus relief Bill' cash. They did not have to ask for it (despite Colon saying they intended to) because they knew it was coming.

Colon's article also stated Harvard - the richest university in the nation and sitting on a $40 Billion endowment - intended to accept and use that money for 'needy student' ... I guess because a $40 Billion endowment was not enough to help their 'needy students'.

The article then goes on to say that AFTER CRITICISM FROM MULTIPLE CRITICS, to include the President, Harvard announced it would NOT take / spend the money as it had planned to do - made clear by its own declaration that it intended to use the money, again, for 'needy kids'.

Critics pressured Harvard into changing its mind and not taking / not spending the money.

Way to go critics!

so, AGAIN, what point is it that you THINK you made?

.

The New York Times article cited (linked) states Harvard knew they were getting millions and planned to use that money. That's not my link. That means Harvard fully intended to take the $8+ million in tax money...while sitting on an $8 BILLION endowment - and spend it.

Does it really make a difference if they fully planned to take it, had plans for spending it, and then changed their mind and decided not to take it after being pressured....or if they had already taken the cash, planned to spend it, and decided not to use it after being pressured not to?

The bottom line is Harvard was going to spend $8+ million in tax dollars despite having a $40 BILLION endowment, and due to pressure from critics -0 to include the President - the Relief money will NOT be going to the richest university on the nation while Average Americans are suffering, just trying to make it by.

I don't care what 'NIT' anyone wants to 'PICK' in this story, this is a win for the American people / citizens / tax dollars.
-- I would have been more impressed with Harvard had they proactively stepped up and say 'We don't want / need the cash - use it for suffering Americans' rather than having to be 'bullied' / pressured into doing so.

yea, but you seem to be NIT PICKing to your own benefit to create a hype that when broken down, is just that.

hype.

nothing nefarious was done by harvard; bottom line. people just are in a mad dash to be a part of the BLAME SOMEONE fad going on right now and shame their favorite targets; making up reasons as you go.

I've taken some great online courses from Harvard. Top shelf courses that I took for free that surpassed 95% of the courses I paid steeply for in my physical university, including MBA classes.
and...…..?

And...that's it. Harvard is nice.
I'm sure they are. They are also flush with cash and rob their students blind and take government money that they don't need.

Harvard gives free tuition to any student who’s family earns $65,000 or less.
Nice PR gesture, but how many per 100 students.

Thats not true. The article is fake news.

Funny report from the NY king of TDS-suffering print media fake news, the NY Times.

So you are saying that out of the blue, without Pelosi and the Democrats ever talking to anyone at Harvard, Pelosi and the Democrats pack into a Corona-Virus Relief bill $8 BILLION dollars for Harvard...for what reason? Does that make any rational since to you? It doesn't to anyone else, which is why it makes the NY Times article and Harvard's statement, after 2 days earlier saying it would NOT return the money, look like horseshit.
Do you understand the difference between million and billion?

Read The NY Times article. It’s very informative.

I did...and you just ducked my questions....

Does it make ense that Pelosi and Democrats shoved into COVID-19 Relief legislation a lare sum of money going to Harvard...without a legitimate reason to do so .... without Pelosi or any Democrats having talked to anyone from or associated with Harvard 1st?

Does it make sense that the President would call out this money being placed in the bill and going to Harvard...where is Pelosi's and Schiff's oversight of COVID-19 money / funding?

Does it make sense that Harvard's official 1st reaction was to say they were not giving the money back....

...and then several days later say 'What money? We have nothing to do with it, aren't taking it'?

Is this - regurgitating the NY Times talking points / claims - what passes for snowflake common sense and 'thinking for yourself'?
Harvard is no better than a leftwing think tank, of course Pelosi tried her best to siphon money to them. shenanigans
