Window for peace in Ukraine missed, US offical admits to Politico

The peace deal was signed in March, 2022. Then the US stepped in an told Zelensky to walk away and go to war.

NOW 300,000 caualties later, there is no end in sight.

WHAT A COLOSSAL BLUNDER BY THE BIDEN PENTAGON.

U.S. officials have told Politico that they may have “missed a window” to push for peace talks between Russia and Ukraine.

“We may have missed a window to push for earlier talks,” a U.S. official told Politico on Friday, adding that U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff “Milley had a point.”

Speaking anonymously, the U.S. officials conceded that Mark Milley “had a point” when he offered a grim pronouncement on Ukraine’s chances for victory last year.

END THIS WAR NOW, STOP DESTROYING UKRAINE TO WEAKEN RUSSIA!
So the map looked like this in March 22

How many times do we need to explain it to ye Russian sympathizers...
Putin is a bully, bullies don't stop until they are hit in the face...

You might be bitch that just like to take it but the real people, we are not heroes or cowards, we know we have to stop this prick...
Next country would have been NATO one...

There is also the cost... Biden has done for a couple months spend in Iraq what Reagan could only dream about... One of US enemies is on its knees..

Only traitors support the Russians like you...

I expect some pushback for those numbers. The internet is full of speculations and fact checking. However I challenge anyone to offer their "fact checked" information of just how much Zelensky is putting in his personal bank account. After all, we gave him complete control of 100 billion dollars.

10% is a lot of money for the big guy.

The United States, and NATO at--large, are entirely correct to support Ukraine in its existential fight against their barbarian Russian neighbors.

Poland understands this on a visceral level. Finland understands this on a visceral level. Romania understands this on a visceral level. So does Germany.

Finland and Sweden have remained neutral for many decades...

But this particularly nasty and bloodthirsty and inhumane and unjustified and unprovoked savage Russian aggression pushed them into the arms of NATO...

Hell... even the SWISS are reconsidering their non-alignment at present... Putin miscalculated... hugely... and now he and Russia are paying the price...

The alternative is to fight in Poland and Romania and Germany later should we be stupid enough to take the OP's Neville Chamberlain -like approach...

Phukk the goddamned Russians and their ignorant Neanderthal aspirations to regain lost empire... an empire that they formerly had to hold by force...

The Russians have the second-best Army in Ukraine but there are a lot of them and they presently (though not for long) have air superiority...

We should continue to support - and greatly expand our support for - Ukraine, so long as they have the heart and willpower to resist the Russian savages...

Starting with a bushel-basket full of F16s and Mirages and Harriers as well as a few dozen A-10s that the USAF doesn't want anymore, and more drones...

The Ukrainians now stand as guardians and as a shield for Eastern Europe against the barbarian hordes from the east...

Glory to Ukraine.

Agree with you...

Increase support... Offer more money and lets finish this quickly...

Help Ukraine with money to set up a mercenary army fund (troops, tank engineers, pilots....).
Every Army in Europe and US allow volunteers to take sabbatical from their job e.g 6 month.

They go and join the mercenary army... Have air supremacy and lets goto to town.. Clear them out by Christmas and join NATO fast... Give them a sliver of Donbass...
Freeze Russian Oligarths money to help pay for this...

Britain's declarations turned both regional conflicts into WORLD wars.
In neither case were the promises hollow... the UK was merely ill-prepared to follow-through and had underestimated their adversaries and needed time to ramp up.
That is the definition of a hollow promise.
Neither the US nor NATO have made promises to defend Ukraine against the barbarian Russians... but they are sympathetic and willing to supply weapons.
Are you trying to play word games?
So long as Russia does not directly attack a NATO member we will not be engaged in a shooting war ourselves, however...
however...?
If you are asking me how a shooting war between Russia and NATO will end... so long as it doesn't go nuclear... the Russians will get their asses kicked...
Do you think that the Russians will allow that without using nukes?
If it goes nuclear then everybody loses... if they wish to commit national suicide then there is nothing we can do to stop that, other than to defend ourselves.
The same can be said by the Russians.

Aggressive dictators on Europe's doorstep must be stopped... and Putin WILL be stopped.. in Ukraine... because the alternative is war on the plains of Europe.
Ukraine is not in NATO.
We show backbone now or we pay a much, much higher price later.A
That is how larger wars get started.
Americans have backbone.
Anatomy or cheer leading?

I'm a Russian sympathizer, their people suffer greatly from Putler's autocratic regime.
Fair Call...

I should have said Putin Sympathizer....

I know we have frozen a fair bit but we should be especially ruthless on anyone close to Putin....

Neither the US nor NATO have made promises to defend Ukraine against the barbarian Russians... but they are sympathetic and willing to supply weapons.

Actually US has made security assurances...

It was to get Ukraine to give up their Nuclear Weapons...

"The Budapest Memorandum contains security “assurances,” not “guarantees.” Guarantees would have implied a commitment of American military force, which NATO members have. U.S. officials made clear that was not on offer. Hence, assurances"

So the actions of the US and UK (and EU) are in accordance to Budapest Memorandum, which Russia is breaking.
If these assurances are not backed up then US/UK (and EU) would not be worth the paper they are written on and soft diplomacy is gone...
