Why People Make Minimum Wage

Higher wages means more union dollars much of which ends up in the hands of Democrats.

Unions are very important to the Democratic party and the Democratic party is very important to unions.

Who lobbies for workers besides unions?

This is why the GOP wants to destroy unions. They will take down the Democrats if there are no more unions.

I've never had a union lobby for me. I've lobbied for myself based on what I offer not what some union extorts for. I guess those who can't do it own their own have to have a union do it for them.

If there were no unions, you wouldn't even know what you are worth. Unions fought for workers and brought our wages up. Without unions, you wouldn't even know your job is worth so much.

If you are making $100,000 k now, thank a union. Even if you weren't in a union, a rising tide lifts all boats.

In my day you graduated college with $5K student loan and got a $100K job. Today you graduate with $50K loan and get a $30K job. THAT is what you are worth my friend.

In fact if we were in a POW camp you'd work for me 10 hours a day for a potato. THAT is what you would be worth without unions or the labor movement schmuck.

You may not even realize it but maybe they helped your parents or grandparents. Even if you live in the south, unions helped you. How? Companies moved down south to avoid being unionized. We're ok with that. Just don't send the jobs to Mexico or China or India. And they pay such high wages in the southern toyota or honda plants because they don't want them unionizing. God bless unions.

Unfortunately poor young Americans are too stupid to organize. Hell, they won't even show up to vote. Fuck em!
If you took out 50k in loans to get a job that makes 30k... that's your fault. If you had picked a more useful degree you'd be making 2-3 times that amount for the same amount in loans. But yes, college has become too expensive. This, thanks to the government involvement in providing backing for low interest loans to make college available to all students.

I get it. If you are a ditch digger or any kind of worker, all you are worth is minimum wage. If you want more, go back to school or start your own company. Ok, so they go to school and get a business degree. Isn't that a good degree?

We all know right now many college grads are not finding work in the field they studied. And MANY of them that are finding jobs at places like Thomson Reuters that pay $30K salaries plus commission. 1 or 2 guys make 6 figures, most make 40-$50K. This is a HUGE company that employes a lot of people in Ann Arbor, MI. HUGE! Maybe Ann Arbors 2nd or 3rd largest company.

Anyways, I love it how when we point to how your economy sucks or doesn't work, you guys always make excuses. The world needs ditch diggers. So when we argue to raise the minimum wage, you say they should all go to school. When some of them do, you say instead of a communication or business degree, they should have become a doctor or start their own business. Not everyone's going to be a business owner. The world needs workers.

And so don't complain that the economy sucks then! If it sucks for you, go back to school. Last I checked Obama's economy was booming for anyone who has money. If you don't, that's not Obama's fault. It's yours.
1st off, a basic business and/or marketing degree is.. not really a valuable degree. MBA from a good school, yes.

Second, there's nothing wrong with taking a 30k job after college getting experience, while you are looking for a better job. The key is not "settling." Do a good job get references, get your MBA and move up.

Third, 30k plus commission is not 30k, unless of course you are not very good at your job.

The way you guys think about this stuff is just sooo different from the way I do. Your arguments are always all about so and so is "taking" something from so and so, or this person doesn't have a right to get this or that person has a right to that...

None of that stuff even seems remotely relevant to me. The question I am always trying to answer is just whether a given policy creates more benefits than costs. Of course a loss of freedom, the hassle of dealing with regulation, etc., all count as costs. Certainly anything that encourages freeloading is a cost. But that cost/benefit approach seems like the only rational framework to tackle these kinds of questions in and I don't get the impression that hardly anybody on the right is even thinking in those terms at all.
Thats not important to them. People like them would swindle their own parents over money. There is a reason most cons are illiterate. They dont even know the golden rule about wealth.

There is no golden rule about wealth except to bleeding hearts like you. The problem with your rule is that you apply to anyone but yourselves. To you, it's about how much you can get out of others.
Actually there is a golden rule about wealth. You dont know it because you arent wealthy. You exist to serve those that would brainwash you into thinking your lack is the result of someone else falling on hard times. People like you make good sheep.

And what's with these guys blaming Obama when for one thing, the economy is doing great for people who have money and good paying jobs and B, they say if you aren't happy with your station in life then YOU are responsible for you and all you need to do is go back to school or start your own company.

I even notice how Republicans in Michigan are going on and on about how great Snyder has done fixing the Michigan economy, but Republicans nationally won't admit that because then that would be admitting Obama's not doing a horrible job.

Instead they blame him for ISIS, just like they blamed him for the BP oil spill back in the 2010 midterms. God are Americans stupid.

People have good paying jobs because they have good skills. People make minimum wage because they offer minimum skills. No one doing a job requiring marketable skills has to worry about making minimum wage. They should be happy it's $7.25 because many do things that's not worth that much then complain someone won't pay them for doing a job one step above what a monkey could be trained to do.

Americans are stupid. 60+ million proved that in 2008 and 2012 when voting for skin color rather than qualifications. The problem is they got what they wanted but the rest of us have to suffer the consequences for their stupid decision.

Wrong. Let me give you a quick story/example about how the American Middle Class became the largest middle class the world had ever seen. I'll try to be quick. Carl graduated from highschool in the 70's, went out and the next day got a union job shoveling coal into a furnace for the equivalent of $17.50 hr in today's $. Why did he make so much? He was in a union. What is that job worth to an employer? Probably minimum wage. Hell, less! They'd rather hire an illegal to do it today! LOL.

Only in your mind does that rule apply.

I don't follow it because it doesn't exist. I'm 49 years old. Based on the wealth I've accumulated, I'll retire at 51 having paid for college for two children. Somehow you seem to think that I owe someone else's kids the same thing.

I exist to support my family and myself not someone else because the choices they made in life produced hard times.
Sorry son. That rule applies to most that understand about true wealth. There is a reason I could stop running my businesses today and I am younger than you. I didnt aske you to put someone elses kid through school even though that would be a good thing. I am telling you that you better pay your taxes so someone elses child can eat. Like I said before dont let me hear about you not paying your taxes.

ONLY in your simple mind.

Since I don't work for you, you don't tell me what to do. How about telling me face to face. You won't like what you hear.

Sorry son. In the minds of most if not all wealthy people. Why would I tell you to your face when I can tell you right here in this forum? If I told you to your face you would just turn pink and red out of anger and fear. You wouldn't say anything back to me because you would be intimidated.

Degrees from top schools are worth more than degrees from the lower ranked schools. It's always been that way. This is not new news. Well, it's not new news to me. It's not just an MBA thing.

But we are just talking about the entry level jobs, and to some extent the pedigree factor used when people get promotions and such.

As a hiring manager and leader of people I've never held much stock in pedigree. I find people that come from the school of hard knocks are sometimes more eager to prove their worth.

You see there is a tendency of humans to coast on their pedigree. heh... My prior job I used to make it my mission to out do everyone that was from a top engineering school, lol.

I read this article once about 20 somethings who wear white shirts to work and work in an office cubical but only make $30-$50K a year and have huge college loans are living at home with their parents, can't afford a home or a nice car, are in up to their ears in debt and yet they pretend to be middle class. I think they called them Trader Joe Middle Class fakers.

And I didn't need to read the article to know this. I know people like this. They were making more in the 1990's but are still on the GOP bandwagon because they don't realize it was the GOP that fucked this country over. They forgot. Just like they forgot how bad HW Bush was and voted in GW. And now they are going to vote in Jeb. IDIOTS!

I've never had a union lobby for me. I've lobbied for myself based on what I offer not what some union extorts for. I guess those who can't do it own their own have to have a union do it for them.

Actually there is a golden rule about wealth. You dont know it because you arent wealthy. You exist to serve those that would brainwash you into thinking your lack is the result of someone else falling on hard times. People like you make good sheep.

You won't say it to my face because you're a coward. Intimidated of some piece of shit pussy boy. No way son. You can make such claims because you've already said you won't do it. That's the sign of a coward. You say you run a business. You don't have the ability to do that. Sticking your finger up your ass and swapping it every few hours isn't a business.

I run a business. I don't own it but I run it. I would start a business but not in this economic climate. You have to be rich to start a business.

How did you come up with the $ to pay your car, home, health, kids, food and afford to start a business? `

My friend owns a Subway. He makes $30K a year. The only way to make money owning a Subway is to own more than one. If you own 2 you make $60K a year. So to make 6 figures you have to own 4 of them. How do you do that unless you already have money?

Oh so now it can't even be an MBA from a state school? Now it's your fault if you don't get an MBA from Harvard? You guys keep raising the bar on what Americans have to do in order to be happy.

While none of the recruiters think to waste your time at a less-than-prestigious graduate program....

You are completely missing my point. You guys say if a ditch digger doesn't like his job then go to school or start your own company. That is not possible for everyone in America to do. So your solution really isn't a solution. At least it is not a solution for the millions who are only qualified to be ditch diggers. Ditch diggers vote. How are you going to make life easier for ditch diggers.

People who went to Western Michigan University or University of Toledo spent a lot of money on their Communications or Marketing Degrees or History degrees or Music Degrees. Are you saying they are worthless or not worth what they cost? Why do so many Americans go? Is it a scam? So you are not solving the problem for these people. You are just telling these college educated young people who did what they were told to do that they fucked up. Any of them that didn't get engineering degrees from Harvard gets what they deserve.

I'm hoping the American people wise up by 2016. The GOP are going to destroy the American Middle class. This midterm was a big test and we failed.

Thank God we have the Obama Veto.

I would! I was at a party back in 2011 and these 3 republicans were bashing Obama and I spoke up. They kept looking at me like they wanted some but not only didn't they want any, they wouldn't even discuss it with me. But I kept noticing them eyeballing me while getting drunker and drunker. Pussies!

See, I don't allow loud republicans in the room to go unchallenged. But I did however have a Tea Baggers employee at my poker game and we were very nice to each other. I made a few jokes about his boss Kerry Bentavolio and he made a few cracks about liberals and we enjoyed the rest of the night.

But if he acted like you sound? We'd have problems. LOL.

Oh boy will he pay taxes! The American people basically said to the GOP last night that it is ok with them if they keep lowering taxes on corporations and the rich and shifting the tax burden onto them.

I'm assuming he's not rich enough to not be "one of us", the people who will have to make up for the tax breaks that rich people and corporations get.

Why should corporations pay taxes? They hire people. Granted they don't pay shit or those people are Chinese or Mexican, but still they hire people.

Why should a corporation operating and doing business in America benefit Americans or America? Fuck us! In fact, they give more $ to the politicians than we do so I'd be willing to bet the politicians care more about them than they do us citizens/workers.

IDIOTS!
Uhm... the democrats were and have been in charge. What did the democrats do to resolve any of said issues? Maybe the problem is both the democrats and the republicans. Maybe the problem is you thinking someone owes you an income.

Oh so now it can't even be an MBA from a state school? Now it's your fault if you don't get an MBA from Harvard? You guys keep raising the bar on what Americans have to do in order to be happy.

While none of the recruiters think to waste your time at a less-than-prestigious graduate program....

You are 100% wrong. It is possible for anyone to start their own company in the USA. Or maybe you can explain to me why it is not possible. People get worthless degrees because they are "easy" or "fun." It's not a scam to sell you what you want to buy.

Fuck em!

Where do you go after you work for the largest Tax & Accounting company in the world that pays better? The answer is you don't. What they pay is as good as it gets.

It could be because of the voters, 45% consider themselves "conservatives", 25% liberal and 30% independent. Those independents need to pick a side. They remind me of wishy washy agnostics. LOL. Choose a side god damn it! LOL

I choose the side that is closest to being right that changes depending on the circumstances. Everyone should register independent unless they are simply participating in a team event.

Good luck getting a loan if you have no collateral or you don't have $200,000 to start. Sure you can tell me of the 1 in a million entrepreneur that did it, but I can show you 999,000 that didn't.

Or good luck competing with Walmart. Walmart killed the small business owners.

One more quick story to illustrate. My illegal immigrant grandfather got a loan from the milk man, cigarette vendor, egg guy, meat guy, etc and he started his own restaurant. America is a lot different now.

30 years ago everyone anywhere else in the world wanted to come to America. Not once exception. But today there are many other countries where it is better to be a middle class person. Upward mobility, social services, healthcare, schools, opportunities.

Today people in Seattle wish they were in Vancouver. What happened? The corporations broke the unions and sent all the jobs international. The American workers make too much compared to India, China, Mexico, Europe, Africa and they will even flood our internal market with illegals and use them to lower our wages that way too.

Why Middle-Class Americans Can t Afford to Live in Liberal Cities - The Atlantic

The American people didn't vote. Where were all the 20 somethings yesterday? They get what they deserve I guess. I head Flint, MI blacks voted for Snyder because he increased the number of cops in Flint. Good for him if he did that. If he's earning the black vote, good! I got no problem with that.

Sarah Palin was part of an Alaskan Independence Party at one time. They advised her if she wants to have any power and get anything done, she would have to join the GOP. The Libertarians and Tea Baggers are all in the GOP. If you feel that is your tent, by all means. I think guys like you should be tea bagging the Democratic party. Choosing candidates who aren't too socially liberal but not just like Republicans in that they answer to Corporations not people.

Unfortunately
I am not a member of any organized political party. I am a Democrat.
