Love it or hate it, is it not peculiar an idea that has been so taboo in our society is now mainstream, what happened? Why is socialism suddenly so popular?

Progressives are fucked in the head...
And they have no education then being snowflakes in their safe spaces.

Venezuela is a case of crime, corruption along with damage inflicted from other countries.
Cuba is doing ok. with good scores on education and healthcare, otherwise nothing spectacular.
USSR is a victim of bad Gorbachev policies. nothing to do with Marxism or socialism, but just policies inappropriate for the situation.

Yet, one of the most important collapse is Greece. caused by exploitation by our banks. but you can fault them for allowing themselves to be exploited.

But none of this comes close to the failed states in Africa. not even close.

The economy of Venezuala went from the strongest in South America to the weakest in such a short time. No doubt corruption had a place in the decline Mr. Chavez promised a socialism light and pushed through an anti private property
constitution. His policies depleted the Venezualan reserves. Mr Maduro was elected president on the promise of a more
radical socialism and he institued wage and price controls among his policies. The result has been hyperinflation, the majority of Venezulans have had involuntary weight loss and nation on the verge of collapse. While I was thinking about this I realized these are people we are talking so dispassionately about, little children scavanging garbage, old people wondering where their next meal will come from, parents grieving their inability to provide for their children all on the promise something for nothing. Right "Promise them the moon but give them a shit sandwich".
I had planned to say something about poverty in Cuba and the 75 year failure of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics
but dang I just want to think about something else for a while.

For over sixty years the Venezuelan powers that were ideologically embraced communism, while politically applying incrementing levels of economic interventionism to private industry before finally taking the formal step into active state socialism with Chavez at the helm. Heavy handed economic interventionism backed by communist ideology is what slew the modern Venezuelan civilization. As we have lived through first hand over the past four decades, the American Left loves itself some extreme economic intervention and loves itself some Marx.

The only question is where along the axis a country chooses to be, i.e., "more" socialism or "less" socialism.
