i'm for being prepared Candy , certainly not cheering for a breakdown in society although some people think that society is already breaking down or has broken down .

On the issue of societal collapse, I'd much rather that it happen sooner than later. Tomorrow would be fine with me. I want my kids to inherit a better world. If a collapse has to occur, I'd rather that I handle the blowback while they're still little, rather than have them have to suffer through it as young adults or even middle aged adults.

If there has to be a falling back, I'd rather take the hit and have them enter a world where things get better for them.

Even if you have prepared, the key is being discreet. I have about 6 months worth but I'm not a prepper...just prepared to help out the family and someone who may be in need.

This is the entire reason I live in the sticks. I've put away 1,000 of gallons of gasoline, I have fresh spring water, cattle, pigs, chickens and a 2 acre truck farm for vegetables. I have a forest full of firewood and I have 2 generators. I have a secure security system that gives me ample warning of trespassers.

I'm no "prepper" either. However, the man that doesn't have enough sense to see what is coming down the pike, and prepare for the inevitable, doesn't deserve to live - he deserves to be a "victim". Should I die of old age before hit happens (and at 70, that is a distinct possibility) my kids know to come here.

Here's the point. This country is on the slow-burn for trouble. It IS coming. and it IS coming soon. No paranoia here - just common sense.

Urban people can also prepare for catastrophe but they should prepare to the degree that they can in their apartments and homes and the best thing would probably be for urban people to stay put and try to ride out the catastrophe in their prepared homes . You'll never get out of L.A. in a big emergency and when you run outa gas or have a flat Triple AAA isn't going to be able to help . It's not as if the bullets are volatile explosives, just waiting to go off. Unless you set the box of cartidges on fire, there isn't much to worry about. I expect to be using candles and lanterns for light. So there will be flames near enough to be able to read the container labels.

That is entirely possible. And then everyone dies. Since I have no control over that, I don't waste time worrying about it.

But my having the preparations that I do has not made my life bad, by any stretch of the imagination. I consider it money well spent.

And if there is a short-term disaster or a long term collapse that does not involve nuclear weapons, I am prepared (at least somewhat).

I think that is better than sitting idly by and hoping.
