What will happen if we do what Repubs want and Deregulate Business'

The companies that put out products that harm people should be sued and ordered to make the victims whole again.

So, when does the same yardstick apply to the FDA, especially in light of the fact that it costs companies over $500 million and nearly a decade to get new devices and medications approved?
You just said that the company should make the victim whole. The $500 million is the cost of development plus FDA safety testing, right? Shouldn't they safety test even if there wasn't an FDA?

And what of the discovered "orphan drugs", which treat so few people that they costs of bringing them to market can never be recouped , in the process?...Who pays for the pain and suffering of the people who could be helped there?

Another great argument for government funded research.
So the tax payer can waste more money? Yeah... real good argument

Isn't the FDA supposed to insure that bad drugs don't make into the marketplace?

Why is it that plaintiffs don't get to sue them for their failures?
Weelllll?

You are actually asking why a plaintiff can't sue us the taxpayer when a drug companies drug hurts someone?... wow.

Should the victim of a drunk driver be able to sue the tax payers because there isn't enough cops?

He's just wrong. The FDA gets sued all the time:

Oh, right....They're a failure at regulating it, so let's just sign the whole enchilada over to them to run in toto.

How did I miss the obvious solution?

Oh, please.

Using bureaucracy to "solve problems" removes the financial penalty for failure....Indeed it subsidizes failure.

How many examples do you need?

Well, that destroys his "we cant sue the govt" arguement

I was only suggesting that if "orphan drugs" can't be developed profitably then that would be a specific instance where the government could justify subsidizing research (which of course they already do).

Most of them are discovered by accident, like Viagra was....That a looooooong reach to make to claim that's proof that the feds should be taking research over in its entirety.

And there's no end to my consternation that the feds are subsidizing any of it in the first place...Talk about choosing winners and losers with taxpayer money.

If your compassion for those people is so great, you pay for it. Your guilty conscience does not give you the right to pick my pocket.
.

I do pay for it along with a lot of crap I don't agree with but that is the price of citizenship.

We are all free leave, do our best to change it or just gripe about it.

Waste money. Research dollars spent on health care are hardly wasted. Just check out longevity statistics. Is this a new CON way to save SS? Stop research so people die sooner?!?! It's easy to come up with glib retorts, just wish you'd think things through for a change!!!

No, that's the price of an overbearing nanny state, that sticks its big fat nose into far too many places where it doesn't belong.

no... I'm talking about cutting substantial checks for the research. You know, five figures or more? Or are you thinking that your paltry 35 cents a day is all your compassion is worth? If you're willing to rob another person to get something done, your compassion is far more than that.

And if you didn't play the wealth redistribution game with unconstitutional programs, you'd be paying for less things you disagreed with and have more money to donate for things you DO agree with.

but as usual, libs are most generous with someone else's property.

If they could think things through they wouldn't BE tools, would they?

If people could think things through the Democratic and Republican parties wouldn't last beyond the next election.

Okay Mr. "I think things through".

Where precisely are we going to GET money for this funding when we are already writing checks for 1.4 TRILLION dollars we already don't have this year alone?

Think that shit through, moron.

I've no problems with ending the party system and banning political organizations forcing candidates to raise money from private citizens only.

How about you, Union lover?

Thinking things through, you would easily see that there's no association whatsoever between taxpayer dollars thrown at medical research and longevity.

Advancement of other technologies completely unrelated to medical research bring that about as a matter of course.

But why let niggling little facts like that get in the way of your knee-jerk accusation of everyone else of being party man hacks?
