What came first.....

Do you actually study what these religions believe?

Your setting a plainly obvious timeline, probably a set up for a point. So get to your point.

Why does it matter

its a simple question.... what came first.

and as was asked before..... why does it NOT matter?

I believe they all claim descendency from Abraham, whether spirtitual or actual, but either way it doesn't matter. Religion has pretty much been around as long as humans have been around, so why does it matter. You might as well ask what music came first. But you chose 3 specific religions... why those 3, what point are you trying to make.

Why does it matter?

actually it was more then three..... "pagan" refers to the many gods. Mormon was also brought up....so were others....

as for those three.... specifically...time line always matters.

The first 5 books of the Old Testament are known as the Torah and were written by Moses.

Written or given?
Actually, both

"VeZot haTorah—This is the Torah that Moses set before the people Israel--by the mouth of God, through the hand of Moses." These phrases, merged from Deuteronomy 4:44 and Numbers 9:23, are recited by traditional Jews each time the Torah is raised to be returned to the Aron Kodesh (Holy Ark). To emphasize the significance of the statement, one frequently sees Jews point at the Torah. "This is it," traditionalist Jews proclaim, "admittedly a copy written by a scribe, but word for word and letter for letter identical with the one transcribed by Moses as God dictated it."

lol...... both huh?

So you started a thread, to try to figure out a timeline that you, and pretty much any else who posted already knew; but you are not trying to make any other point out of this using the timeline. You are strictly here to try to figure out a timeline?

And yea I do not consider pagan a specific religion, like Judaism, Islam, or Christianity. So you had 3 specific religions in mind... why those 3, and is there any other reason besides timeline why it matters? Make your point

Of course Jews came before Christians. The Old Testament is all about the Jews. The spoke of the coming of the son of God, but there was never a mention of Christianity. Not until Jesus began preaching the word did the name Christian come about, because of Jesus being the Christ.

You're right, the bible never mentions muslims. Yes God spoke in the OT about the many people that wanted to kill Jews. God was always protecting the Jews. So back then, there wasn't a name for their enemies, but i believe they were muslims before they were called muslims. Make sense??? :)

Christians wouldn't be mentioned in the Torah, since Jews did not believe in Christianity or believe the Messiah has already come.

The origins of the Bible are in some dispute I think. The Jewish religion may predate the Torah ( 1st 5 books) by a few hundred years, maybe more. It is believed by some that the Torah was given to Moses by God, rather than written by Moses, who lived circa 1200 BC. Others think the Torah was written much later, perhaps 600-800 BC, and added to since then.

In any case, the Jewish religion predates Christianity, which predates Islam. There are other older religions however, not sure it matters much what came first. There is an interesting book for those who want to learn more by Robert Wright called The Evolution of God. It talks about various theories about how humans may have first considered the possibility of supernatural forces that may influence their existence. It doesn't get into the Eastern and other religions much, the major focus is on the 3 Abrahamic religions.

Actually, it depends upon what one chooses to believe.

Many respected Biblical scholars observe elements that indicate more than one author for the earlier parts of the book. There are many elements similar to Zoroastrianism as well (a very old religion that seems to have gone unnoticed here).

What religions came first?

Do the christinas predate muslims?
Do the jews predate christians?
Do the pagans predate everything?

The way i see it.... the koran talks about chirstians and jesus... so christians were here before the koran..

The bible talks about the jews...but not muslims....so jews must have been around when the bible was written...

Neither christians or muslims are talked about in the torah... so jews must have come before them...

Pagans dont have a book.... but were here long before the christians...

According to Scripture, God created the world in 5 days, created man on the 6th, and rested on the 7th day. The first man He named Adam and the first woman, which He created from man's rib, He named Eve. Their descendants became the nations that we know today, including Pagans, Jews and Christians, and everyone else.

Hey, wait! Adam and Eve's kids married whom, then?

Does it matter? As some are lead to believe, god wiped the planet of most of humanity (because they were a disappointment to him) and started over with Noah and his immediate family to populated the earth. A few commandments appear to have been broken with such an arrangement but hey, mess with the gods and all manner of nastiness is in in store.

No, it doesn't make sense and has zero to do with muslims.

The sworn enemy of the Jews according to the Torah were call the Amalekites.

The Jews after many years of warfare totally wiped them out as a people and culture; killing every man, woman, and child.

Commandments to exterminate Amalekites

Of the 613 mitzvot (commandments) followed by Orthodox Jews, three refer to the Amalek: to remember what the Amalekites did to Jews, not to forget what the Amalekites did to Jews, and to destroy the Amalekites utterly. The rabbis derived these from Deuteronomy 25:17–18, Exodus 17:14 and 1 Sam. 15:3. Rashi explains the third commandment:

"From man unto woman, from infant unto suckling, from ox unto sheep, so that the name of Amalek not be mentioned even with reference to an animal by saying "This animal belonged to Amalek"..

Hollie answered that, but to be clear, they married each other, which was OK at the time...clearly.

Guess that was before genetics then, eh?

Or was that also before religions?

Unlike what man, mankind, has placed in his heart/mind, which states that man/mankind is progressing. Biblically speaking, man/mankind is regressing, read deteriorating. Thanks to sin's influence on nature.

Is that because God created a system of genetics that determines mating between siblings leads to 'deterioration'?

Well, there were the paleolithic religions which could have started about 300,000 years ago. They had dancing, wild parties and alcoholic beverages at their church services.

No, that's not it.

That is a common misconception that many people have about Cain and his other brother Seth marrying their sisters.

Adam and Eve were the first people to have souls and to know God.

But they were not the first people to inhabit the earth.

Think about it......after Cain killed Able; the Torah says that God put a "mark" on Cain so that people wouldn't kill him as he wandered the earth.

So clearly there were other people and settlements throughout the land.

And this explains how he and his brother Seth were able to find wives to marry.
