We are sleepwalking into an era of unprecedented danger

Things move faster than you think all the time and our Navy is expensive.

I wonder how the next round of naval battles will go.

The post is in the wrong forum. It's based on an incoherent rant by a left wing Brit who refers to the President of the United States as an "American Caligula who is presiding over the death throes of Pax Americana".

Socialism has rendered our European Allies weak and effeminate

To put a historic context to the post, the U.S. walked into an era of unprecedented danger just after WW2. FDR was dead but his legacy lingered and the media supported democrat administrations no matter what. Secretary of State George Marshall, hailed as the "citizen soldier" by the media, disarmed the Chinese army which was loyal to the U.S. during WW2 and ushered in the Communist era of Mao. Democrat icon Harry Truman who was designated by democrats to succeed FDR, apparently wasn't chosen for his intelligence. The little bean counter was busy dismantling the U.S. Military while he vowed to reduce the USMC that had shed so much blood in the Pacific to a single guard detachment. Ironically little timid Harry was blindsided by the N.K. invasion of Korea and it was the Marines that bailed him out after his chosen general's negligence (or a senior senior moment) caused him to extend the initial mission with disastrous results. Today we have a strong President with an agenda to protect America from foreign and domestic enemies and the crazy left hates it. China is on board with sanctions against North Korea when they were shooting at us during the Truman administration.

Until recently, I harboured the view that this was decades away. Recent Chinese behaviour suggests they are committed to dominating the sea lanes through which most of our trade passes in the near future.

It takes a lot more than behavior, what you need is ability.

And the People's Liberation Army Navy has very little actual capability. They really are a paper tiger, with very little actual capability outside of their own local territorial waters.

Yes, they have some fancy new ships. They have an aircraft carrying missile cruiser that they call an "aircraft carrier", but that is about it.

They have limited blue water experience. They have almost no experience in UNREP. They have almost no experience in actual fleet operations. In reality, it is a hopped up Coast Guard.

In short, no matter what they say they are not going to "dominate the sea lanes" at any time in the future that I can see. Just the US Pacific Fleet is more than a match for them, let alone if they augmented that fleet with assets from other fleets.

You spent 8 years fighting against Obama's Asia pivot so we could have more adventures in the Middle East. STFU
